Job Profile

Our global legal team spans five continents, but we operate as One Legal—a cohesive team working across borders to achieve shared strategic objectives. Strong relationships with our internal clients, combined with our solution-driven approach and practical advice, ensure we are invited to the table early and often, leading to interesting and rewarding work that directly supports Equinix’s corporate strategy.

We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives are valued and respected. We believe that innovation thrives when everyone feels empowered to contribute.

The Role

As Legal Counsel, Global Contracts, you will support our most strategic customers, including those purchasing hyperscale services globally. You will manage the full contract lifecycle—from pre-contract RFP through final negotiations—facilitating essential processes for contract closure (e.g., obtaining approvals) and collaborating with global teams. Your responsibilities include drafting and negotiating complex contracts, advising on contractual issues and risk, and driving process improvements to simplify operations and modernize tools. These contracts are highly complex and focus on large footprint opportunities, requiring strong business understanding, agility, and appropriate governance for market-leading customers.

Responsibilities
  • Draft, review, and negotiate highly complex customer contracts for strategic and hyper-scale deals, independently or in support of senior legal counsel, ensuring contracts protect Equinix while taking a pragmatic approach to risk.
  • Manage pre- and post-signing interactions with stakeholders and customers, including handling non-standard language on Equinix and customer templates, and ensure timely approvals in collaboration with negotiation teams.
  • Handle STRAT-A and global major customer accounts, liaising with colleagues worldwide and managing negotiations across AMER, APAC, and EMEA, while valuing diverse cultural perspectives.
  • Oversee the full deal cycle, including obtaining approvals, coordinating with the wider Legal team and business units, and aligning activities across departments (Sales, Finance, Tax, Insurance).
  • Support corporate transactions requiring customer contract due diligence, disclosures, notifications, consents, and/or additional contractual documentation.
  • Provide legal advice and respond to queries relating to customer contracts, including post-signature issues, liaising with internal departments, and supporting litigation or insurance claims if required.
  • Advise on legal rights, risk assessment, and contract interpretation; provide strategic guidance to the business and ancillary advice to Sales on issues such as early termination, novations, price increases, renewals, amendments, and customer rights.
  • Conduct contract research and interpretation, offering guidance on day-to-day transactional and non-transactional matters.
  • Collaborate with global teams to ensure a consistent and efficient approach to stakeholder management.
  • Engage in global projects, initiatives, deals, and corporate or commercial transactions as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Law degree (or equivalent legal qualification) from a recognized institution.
  • 3–6 years’ post-qualification experience in a law firm or in-house.
  • Experience in negotiating and drafting complex contracts.
  • Ability to manage and organize large deals/projects under deadline pressure.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and discretion.
  • Strong ability to manage competing priorities daily.
  • Agile, adaptable, and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work globally and proficiently use technology tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and relationship management across multiple departments.
  • Motivated by contributing to a fast-growing, innovative business and supporting our most strategic customers in a collaborative, inclusive environment.
