Role Overview:
The Technical Program Manager (TPM) bridges the gap between technical teams and business objectives. This role requires both a deep understanding of technical concepts and strong program management skills to drive projects from inception to completion. TPMs work cross-functionally to ensure that programs are delivered on time, within scope, and meet quality standards. They manage resources, track project milestones, and communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure alignment with business goals.
Job Duties:• Define project scope, objectives, and success metrics in collaboration with stakeholders and technical teams.• Create detailed project plans, including timelines, milestones, resource requirements, and budget estimates.• Track progress, identify risks, and proactively mitigate any issues that could impact project timelines or deliverables.
Stakeholder Communication:• Act as the primary liaison between technical teams, product managers, and other stakeholders to ensure project alignment and manage expectations.• Communicate project status, risks, and decisions to stakeholders at regular intervals through reports, presentations, and meetings.• Facilitate cross-functional communication to resolve dependencies and remove blockers.
Resource Management and Coordination:• Identify and allocate the necessary resources to execute the project, including personnel, software, and infrastructure.• Coordinate with engineering, quality assurance, and other teams to ensure resources are optimized and project priorities are met.
Risk Management and Problem Resolution:• Assess project risks proactively and create mitigation strategies to address them.• Lead the resolution of complex issues, whether technical or process-related, to keep projects on track.• Conduct post-mortems and develop action plans to prevent similar issues in future projects.
Technical Guidance and Oversight:• Provide technical insight and direction to align project goals with the technical capabilities of the team.• Review technical solutions and ensure they meet project requirements, providing guidance to engineering teams as needed.• Ensure that projects adhere to best practices, industry standards, and internal quality guidelines.
Process Improvement and Best Practices:• Continuously assess and improve project management processes to increase efficiency and streamline delivery.• Advocate for and implement best practices in agile, lean, or other relevant methodologies suited to the team and project requirements.• Develop and share documentation on lessons learned, templates, and other resources to improve future project delivery.
Performance Tracking and Reporting:• Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure project success.• Track and report on project metrics, using insights to inform future projects and strategies.• Conduct performance reviews, feedback sessions, and retrospectives with the team to drive continuous improvement.
