UL Solutions is seeking a Laboratory Engineer to join our Built Environment team, supporting the testing and evaluation of curtain walling, rainscreen cladding, façades, and building envelope systems. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an engineering or technical background who enjoys working with data, interpreting results, and delivering high-quality testing projects.
The successful candidate will combine hands-on laboratory expertise with strong analytical capabilities, advanced Microsoft Excel skills, and exceptional attention to detail to help ensure the safety, performance, and compliance of innovative building products used around the world.
As a Laboratory Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering testing projects for customers across the construction and built environment sector. Working within our specialist façade and building envelope laboratory, you will manage testing activities, analyse results, prepare technical reports, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
You will collaborate with engineers, technicians, and customers to ensure projects are completed accurately, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

As a Laboratory Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering testing projects for customers across the construction and built environment sector. Working within our specialist façade and building envelope laboratory, you will manage testing activities, analyse results, prepare technical reports, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
You will collaborate with engineers, technicians, and customers to ensure projects are completed accurately, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute testing programs for curtain walling, rainscreen cladding, façade systems, and other building envelope products.
- Follow detailed test plans, procedures, and datasheets while maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
- Evaluate test performance and analyse data to determine product compliance and performance.
- Record, interpret, and communicate test results through clear and accurate technical reports.
- Lead simple testing projects, managing timelines, deliverables, and customer expectations.
- Define test plans, ensure report accuracy, and deliver projects within agreed deadlines.
- Communicate project status and results to customers, engineers, and internal stakeholders.
- Examine customer samples and determine appropriate testing methodologies.
- Build, adapt, and maintain test setups and laboratory equipment in accordance with engineering requirements.
- Perform maintenance and calibration activities on designated laboratory equipment.
- Utilise Excel and other data analysis tools to interpret results, identify trends, and support decision-making.
- Update project tracking systems and relevant databases with accurate project information.
- Contribute to process improvements, automation initiatives, and laboratory efficiency projects.
- Recommend improvements to equipment, processes, and reporting methods to enhance quality and productivity.
- Participate in on-site or external testing activities when required.
- Adhere to UL Solutions' Code of Conduct and all physical and digital security requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Engineering, Building Technology, Construction, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience within curtain walling, façade, rainscreen cladding, construction materials, building envelope testing, or a similar technical environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret technical data and draw meaningful conclusions.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis, reporting, and trend evaluation.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining high quality standards.
- Strong communication skills with the confidence to engage with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a technical and team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
