The L&H Retrocession Manager works in a dynamic international team, currently located in the US, France and Germany and in close cooperation with our worldwide local market teams.
By developing innovative retrocession structures, the L&H Retrocession Manager plays a pivotal role in shaping strategies that actively support business growth across various markets, enabling them to offer additional capacity to clients and enhancing SCOR’s competitive positioning.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills are essential for fostering and expanding relationships with brokers and retrocessionaires.
Responsibilities- Drive the expansion of strategic partnerships of internal as well as external relationships, acting as SCOR’s representative in negotiations with brokers and retrocessionaires.
- Lead negotiations with brokers and retrocessionaires to expand existing partnerships ensuring outcomes that optimize SCOR’s capital efficiency, risk appetite, and growth ambitions across markets. Develop innovative retrocession structures that support SCOR’s global and local market strategies, anticipating emerging needs and proactively proposing solutions that enhance portfolio resilience and profitability.
- Provide expert strategic guidance to local market teams on structuring, optimizing, and deploying retrocession in line with SCOR’s enterprise wide retro strategy.
- Develop a deep, expert level understanding of SCOR’s global L&H portfolio, identifying structural challenges, hidden correlations, and strategic opportunities that can be transformed into impactful retrocession solutions.
- Oversee and quality assure all retrocession wordings, collaborating closely with Legal to ensure structural robustness, regulatory compliance, and clarity of obligations and rights.
- Drive the strategic development of advanced L&H retrocession modelling capabilities, particularly for high severity catastrophe scenarios (e.g., earthquake events).
- Oversee modelling frameworks used to forecast extreme event impacts on SCOR’s global portfolio and provide guidance for risk mitigation strategies.
- The L&H Retro team works in a global environment and needs to understand and deal with changing market developments, such as new products, new reinsurance solutions but also new regulations. These new developments need to be translated into new retrocession solutions, making the duties and responsibilities developing over time.
Experience:
- Experience in retrocession or reinsurance with a focus on mathematics, finance or economics
- Expertise in retrocession structures, including all traditional retrocession structures as well as innovative structures.
- Strong understanding of global L&H (re)insurance, including market cycles and competitive landscape
- IFRS 17 knowledge for life insurance and Re-insurance
- Advanced IT skills, particularly in data analysis and reporting tools, alongside proficiency in MS Office
- Strong strategic and commercial mindset, with the ability to think broadly across portfolio, capital, and risk dimensions.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex concepts clearly to senior stakeholders.
- Ability to operate effectively in a dynamic global environment, balancing multiple priorities and driving decisions.
- Strong team player with a collaborative leadership style, capable of navigating diverse stakeholder landscapes.
- Fluent in English
