Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Legal Advisory & Business Partnering
    • Provide pragmatic, solution-oriented legal advice on marketing services, advertising, sponsorship, and brand initiatives, including digital campaigns, social media, influencer partnerships, and promotional activities.
    • Advise on and negotiate contracts with marketing agencies, creative partners, talent, and media buying services.
    • Support the business on marketing services, sponsorships, and strategic alliances, ensuring alignment with company objectives and regulatory requirements.
    • Review and approve external presentations and client-facing materials for legal compliance.
  • Compliance & Risk Management
    • Ensure content and advertising complies with advertising standards, consumer protection laws, data privacy (including GDPR) and intellectual property laws.
    • Identify and mitigate legal and reputational risks associated with marketing activities.
    • Monitor regulatory developments impacting marketing and advertising, and update internal stakeholders accordingly.
  • Contract Management
    • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including marketing services, sponsorship, talent, and promotional contracts.
    • Maintain and update contract templates and clause libraries for marketing-related agreements.
    • Manage day-to-day legal queries and business transactions within the marketing and commercial space.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Liaise with other members of the Legal, Ethics and Compliance Team (in Europe and Globally) and external counsel as necessary.
    • Partner with other Visa departments including Marketing, Procurement, and Product teams to support strategic initiatives and ensure legal advice is aligned with business needs.
    • Provide training and guidance to business teams on legal considerations for marketing campaigns and compliance best practices.
  • Governance & Policy
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and guidelines for marketing compliance.
    • Proactively contribute to the Legal, Ethics & Compliance Division’s planning, cohesion, and efficiency.
  • AI, Technology and Innovation
    • Use artificial intelligence (AI) in legal review of marketing, advertising in commercial initiatives, ensuring compliance with evolving laws, regulations and internal policies.
    • Support the review and implementation of AI-driven marketing and legal tools.
    • Monitor development in AI regulation and proactively update internal stakeholders on risks, opportunities, and best practices.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain guidelines for the responsible use of AI in marketing and commercial activities.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience
•    Qualified solicitor in England & Wales (other jurisdictions considered).
•    1–4 years’ post-qualification experience, ideally in marketing, advertising, media, and commercial law.
•    Demonstrable experience at a recognised law firm and/or in-house legal environment, preferably within a regulated business or technology/digital sector.
•    Strong knowledge of consumer protection, advertising regulations, data privacy, and intellectual property law.
•    Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
•    Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
•    Demonstrable interest or experience in advising on legal issues related to AI. 
•    Ability to manage a varied and busy workload, prioritise effectively, and work both independently and as part of a team.
•    Positive attitude, high level of integrity, and intellectual curiosity.
•    Fluent in English.
Desirable:
•    Knowledge of the payments industry or financial services environment.
•    Experience with cross-border and multi-jurisdictional contracts.
•    Previous experience supporting a Marketing function.
•    Additional European language.
