- JOB TITLE: Junior Detection & Response Engineer
- SALARY: £35,340
- LOCATION(S): Edinburgh, Bristol, Leeds or Manchester.
- HOURS: Full-time – 35 hours per week. This position will involve participation in an on-call rotation.
- Our work style is hybrid. This means spending at least two days per week at one of our office sites. This equals 40% of our time.
About this Opportunity
As a Junior Detection & Response Engineer, you’ll apply your cyber security training to help safeguard the organisation. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, contributing to the detection and response to cyber threats while continuing to build your technical expertise. This role presents an outstanding opening to engage with a proactive team dedicated to securing our systems and data from evolving threats.
What you’ll do:
- Monitor security alerts and events, identifying and calling out potential threats
- Conduct initial investigation and triage of cyber incidents, with support from senior team members
- Assist in maintaining and tuning detection rules and playbooks
- Support proactive threat hunting and contribute to threat modelling activities
- Participate in post-incident reviews and support ongoing improvement
- Collaborate with colleagues to solve problems and share knowledge

What you’ll need
- Formal training in cyber security (e.g. degree, apprenticeship, professional certification, or equivalent practical experience)
- Understanding of threat detection concepts, security operations, and common tools (such as SIEM platforms)
- Ability to analyse security logs and events
- Familiarity with attacker tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs)
- Good communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical audiences
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
- Willingness to join an on-call rota and regular weekend working
