Java Software Engineer

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

• Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
• Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
• Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
• Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
• Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

We are seeking a Java Software Engineer to join our Private Banking and Wealth Management team, bringing strong backend engineering expertise alongside hands‑on experience in data engineering using Oracle and stored procedures. In this role, you will lead development activity across key services, shaping technical design, guiding best practices, and contributing to the build and optimisation of high‑performing Java services. You’ll work closely with cross‑functional teams to deliver scalable solutions, integrate complex data flows, and ensure robust engineering standards across the platform while supporting the growth and development of the wider engineering team.

To be successful in this role, you should have experience in:

• Java (11/17/23) & REST API Engineering – Spring Boot, API standards, secure coding.
• Cloud‑native deployments on aPaaS (OpenShift / Red Hat) – containerization, CI/CD, GitLab/Jenkins, RHEL ecosystem.
• Data Engineering - expertise in Oracle and Stored Procedures.

Some other highly valued skills include:

• Risk & Controls – API security, cert/cipher compliance, vulnerability & ORAC alignment.
• Service Mesh – Istio/Envoy patterns, mesh migrations.
• Event Driven / Messaging – Kafka-based integrations.
• DevOps & GitOps Automation – GitLab pipelines, Jenkins, GitOps, OpenShift tooling.
