Role:                                    Java Developer

Location:                             We operate a hybrid schedule, meaning twice monthly in the office based in central London

Salary:                                 £ DOE plus extensive benefits

Working hours:                  We work on a core hours principle. Our core hours are 09:30 - 16:00; you can work around these to suit you!

Our tech teams keep us running 24/7 to make sure all our patients get world class service. To support that, this role may include participation in an out-of-hours rota as required by the business. We operate fair scheduling process as well as additional compensation for all on call periods.

We are looking for a talented and thorough Java Developer to join the team to continue with revolutionising health care for the benefit of millions of patients in the UK and across the world. You will share the IT technical ownership and responsibilities for our new and existing services for Expert Health.

You’ll work closely with a team comprised of frontend and backend developers, clinicians, algorithm builders and Quality Analysts, who thrives on delivering robust, tested and high-quality solutions.

What you’ll be doing?

·        Act as a hands‑on Java developer, contributing to the design, build, testing, and rollout of new medical services at scale

·        Maintain, enhance, and optimise existing services to reflect clinical innovation, regulatory change, and new medicines entering the market

·        Work within a microservices‑based architecture, applying best‑practice software design principles (SOLID, ACID, object‑oriented design)

·        Collaborate closely with product owners and stakeholders, balancing commercial considerations with technical quality

·        Engage with cutting‑edge technologies (including clinical algorithms and cloud platforms such as GCP) to improve patient outcomes

·        Contribute actively to team discussions, sharing ideas, asking thoughtful questions, and supporting collaborative problem‑solving

·        Understand business constraints and negotiate practical trade‑offs with delivery teams to achieve agreed goals

·        Ensure each development increment delivers clear business value, supporting the organisation’s competitive advantage

Who are we looking for?

·        Previous development experience with Java 1.8+, Spring Boot and MySQL

·        Experience with cloud environments such as GCP, AWS or Azure

·        Writing integration tests (such as Cucumber) and understanding behaviour-driven development (BDD) principles (desirable)

·        Demonstrable front-end (React) experience in a full stack implementation context (desirable)

·        Working within an Agile environment (desirable)

·        Experience integrating with e-commerce platforms such as Shopify (desirable)

·        Experience with GoLang (desirable)

·        Familiarity in microservice architecture

·        Understanding of DevOps CI/CD methodologies, working with Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, etc

·        Software Development best practice such as SOLID, ACID and OO design principles
