IT Solutions Engineer

Crawley / Sussex area (Home-Based)

Up to £40k + Van + Overtime + On-Call

Want to be the go-to expert rather than just another engineer fixing tickets?

Focus Group needs an IT Solutions Engineer who's already a subject matter expert in networking, server infrastructure, or cloud technologies—and wants to lead complex projects while mentoring other engineers.

This isn't a reactive support role. You'll be leading solution design, delivering multi-technology projects, and acting as the technical escalation point for your specialism. If you're ready to move beyond day-to-day troubleshooting and into technical leadership, this is it.

What you'll actually be doing:

You'll lead delivery of small, medium, and large projects across SME to enterprise customers—both remotely and onsite. Think solution architecture within your technical specialism, complex fault resolution, infrastructure audits, and site surveys. You'll attend customer calls for technical discussions and scoping, design best-practice solutions, and interface with account management, vendors, and project teams to deliver what customers actually need.

Beyond project delivery, you'll act as the internal mentor and technical advisor for your area of expertise—providing leadership, creating documentation, maintaining knowledge base articles, and supporting colleagues on complex implementations. You're setting the standard for how we deliver technology solutions.

You'll bring:

  • Proven IT support or delivery experience with demonstrable subject matter expertise in at least one of these areas:
    • Networking: VLANs, routing, wireless, Ekahau, Meraki, SonicWall, Cisco, Aruba
    • Server & Storage: Windows Server, Hyper-V, VMware, M365, Azure
    • Cloud: M365, Azure, Intune, SharePoint
  • Specialist or expert knowledge in your chosen technology plus solid generalist technical skills across the board
  • Ability to confidently architect solutions within your technical specialism
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with a methodical approach to complex problems
  • Strong desire to grow your technical knowledge and customer service capability
  • Flexibility for adjusted hours or occasional overnight stays on larger projects
  • Full valid UK driving licence (essential)

Nice to have:

Experience in an IT managed service environment

Relevant vendor certifications (Microsoft, Meraki, SonicWall, Aruba, Cisco)

Active Microsoft certifications like MS-101, MS-100, AZ-104, AZ-140

Why Focus Group?

We're a 1,300-person Microsoft technology partner backed by HG Capital. We work with diverse customers from SME to enterprise, which means real variety in the projects you'll lead and the technologies you'll work with. You'll get genuine technical leadership opportunities with clear progression toward Team Manager, Technical Consultant, or Pre-Sales roles.

Home-based in the Crawley area with customer site visits. Salary up to £40k depending on experience, plus company van, overtime payments, and on-call allowances.
