This position blends technical leadership, personnel management, and heavy hands-on system engineering to ensure maximum uptime, optimal infrastructure planning, and successful execution of complex technology migrations.

The manager aligns business and technical requirements to develop architectural design specifications across hybrid environments, spanning bare-metal servers, collocations, and cloud architectures. As a working manager, you will be expected to actively build, configure, and troubleshoot alongside your team while guiding its strategic direction.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of direct reports within the IT Engineering division, including establishing yearly performance goals, delivering performance reviews, and guiding professional growth.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on datacenter lifecycles, contract renewals, power footprint negotiation, and capacity expansions.
  • Oversee and prioritize technical project execution, including infrastructure upgrades, platform refreshes, and legacy environment decommissionings.
  • Establish goals and priorities for staff/area of responsibility consistent with departmental objectives.
  • Ensure deliverables are on target with goals, make modifications, and adapt to organizational goals or direction changes.
  • May be responsible for team formations and associated assignments to accomplish work.
  • Align processes with department goals.
  • Operate within a pre-established budget.
  • Control costs by managing internal resources and containing expenses.
  • Have input into future budget recommendations with senior management.
  • Develop processes for the production of management reports, statistics, performance measures, etc.
  • Establish an environment where staff learns to be self-sufficient, competent, and challenged.
  • Coach and monitor staff in continuous performance, improvement, and development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related engineering discipline, or equivalent professional work experience.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of progressive experience in infrastructure engineering or cloud operations, with a proven track record of supervising technical staff or complex cross-datacenter infrastructure roadmaps.
  • Must demonstrate recent, proven experience heavily balancing daily management duties with direct, hands-on technical execution.
  • Must have prior formal experience as a fully hands-on engineering manager, team lead, or senior technical authority. You will be expected to actively build, configure, and troubleshoot alongside your team while supervising direct reports, approving operational budgets, and evaluating engineering goals.
  • Extensive hands-on experience engineering, maintaining, and actively configuring Ubuntu environments, Puppet automation platforms, and bare-metal orchestration tools (MAAS)
  • Demonstrated hands-on background executing datacenter footprint migrations, handling hardware procurement, and directly engineering/managing virtualization boundaries (including OpenStack, LXD, KVM, and ESXi lifecycles).
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Active Directory management, enterprise certificate enrollment processes, identity tooling, and maintaining critical trust layers across corporate domain controllers.
  • Deep, hands-on familiarity with the intricacies of CEPH architecture and administration for long-term persistent storage. Technical proficiency evaluating, planning, and actively managing physical/SAN storage equipment, such as PureStorage or enterprise S3-compatible targets.
  • Hands-on experience or familiarity with MicroCloud deployment/management frameworks.
  • Must be able to organize/prioritize existing resources and incorporate new information, as needed, to implement the most effective solutions.
