THE JOB:

The ISD Markets Reliability Engineering Manager provides senior leadership across the full engineering estate supporting LSEG’s Markets business. The role strengthens reliability engineering as a foundational discipline across compute, storage, network, Linux, cloud and application-supporting infrastructure platforms. This position is responsible for embedding modern reliability engineering practices across all technical teams within ISD Markets, improving resilience, and ensuring that critical services are delivered with high stability, performance and regulatory assurance.

You will act as the senior reliability authority partnering across Infrastructure, Cloud, Architecture, InfoSec, Application Support and Service Management, while supporting the broader engineering strategy led by the Head of Markets Infrastructure Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

People Leadership

• Lead, coach and develop a cross functional team of Reliability Engineering Managers with clear expectations, capability standards and professional growth pathways.

• Embed a culture of engineering excellence, accountability and continuous improvement.

Matrix & Cross-Team Leadership

• Provide functional leadership across the wider Engineering organisation, influencing engineers and managers in teams you do not directly manage.

• Align platform teams behind reliability goals, operational readiness requirements and standardised practices.

Reliability Engineering Strategy & Governance

• Evolve the Markets Infrastructure Reliability Engineering framework, ensuring consistent standards, practices and tooling across all infrastructure and platform teams.

• Implement a unified approach to resilience, observability, capacity planning, recoverability and operational risk reduction.

Technical Leadership Across the Engineering Estate

• Support all technical areas under Markets Infrastructure Services including infrastructure services, cloud platforms, application operational support, network services, Linux estates, compute, storage and related engineering domains.

• Act as senior SME across discovery, architecture, design, planning, implementation, cutover and operational transition for complex programmes delivering Markets infrastructure and cloud capabilities.

• Guide platform modernisation and transformation initiatives including re architecture, modern compute platforms, containerisation and hybrid-cloud aligned engineering.

Operational Stability, Risk & Compliance

• Drive a proactive reliability and failure-engineering culture focused on failure mode analysis, resilience testing, disaster recovery validation and scenario-based exercises.

• Support the Head of Markets Infrastructure Services in ensuring risk, audit and regulatory compliance standards are consistently met, including operational controls, evidence, change governance and regulatory readiness.

• Partner with incident, problem and change functions to ensure stability, strong post incident analysis and reduction of systemic risks.

Programme & Delivery Engagement

• Provide technical leadership and reliability assurance for critical Markets infrastructure programmes across compute, network, cloud, platform and application-supporting services.

• Support the Markets engineering strategy, demand pipeline and planning of major engineering initiatives.

• Partner with delivery, business management and risk teams to ensure that engineering impacts and reliability needs are fully represented.

Stakeholder Management & Senior Communication

• Engage regularly with senior technology and business stakeholders, providing transparency on resilience risks, operational performance, capacity, observability maturity and programme dependencies.

• Support external client, partner and regulator conversations led by the Head of Markets Infrastructure Services when stability, technical change or platform risks are involved.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Experience

• Significant experience in Reliability Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Platform Engineering or technical leadership roles in complex, high-availability and/or regulated environments.

• Proven track record improving resilience, stability and operational performance across large scale Linux, network, compute or cloud estates.

• Experience influencing senior technical and business stakeholders.

• Strong understanding of operational risk, controls, regulatory environments and audit expectations relevant to financial markets.

Preferred Certifications / Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or related field.

• Professional development or certifications in infrastructure, cloud, automation, DevOps or reliability engineering disciplines.

• Linux engineering expertise (RHEL preferred), including performance, capacity and failure mode analysis.

• Observability (metrics, logs, traces), diagnostics and root cause analysis.

• Automation, configuration management and standardised platform builds.

• Reliability design for hybrid platforms.

• Security and compliance alignment across infrastructure (hardening, monitoring, identity, auditability).

• Understanding of network, compute, storage and platform resiliency patterns.
