This role provides the opportunity to be part of a high-energy centralised internal communications team, working at pace to drive the transformation of Rolls-Royce. This role will be at the heart of embedding a new purpose and culture ambition as well as driving the belief in our strategy. It will suit a candidate who is highly motivated, comfortable with ambiguity and able to adapt through a complex period of change.

What you will be doing:

The role reports to the SVP Internal Communications and works in a Rolls-Royce wide squad that supports our Enabling Functions (People, Transformation, Finance, Digital, GBS, General Counsel) to drive the core messages across the group. This squad is led by VP Internal Communications, functions and key topics for this role include People agenda, Leadership and Purpose and Behaviours. It’s a collaborative role that works with the Communications business partners to drive belief in our strategy and build trust in leadership.

Content strategy and planning: Use insight to shape the engagement plans to drive the required change, working in close partnership with the Transformation and People teams.

  • Determine the most appropriate channels to reach key audiences (digitally connected and non-connected work environments)
  • Ensure colleagues and internal clients have clarity on the benefits of the recommended approach – identifying potential opportunities or issues.

Engagement activity and content development: Using the corporate narrative, develop core messages and materials that use an audience-centric approach, reflects the tone/style of the messenger, provides cut through to connect with the readers and improves communication experiences across specific touchpoints.

  • Campaigns: Work directly with the Content & Channels team or preferred supplier to produce materials with a consistent corporate narrative that reflects the business strategy, priorities, and culture ambition via our owned channels.
  • Storytelling: Collaborate with subject matter experts and broader networks to provide stories and proof-points which align to our global strategic pillars and set of behaviours e.g., People partners, Employee advocacy groups, site leaders.
  • Insight: Regularly review insight and measurement data to evolve engagement tactics for relevancy and impact e.g., using metrics to gauge impact and outcome of campaigns

Innovation and best practice: Seek out and apply innovative, creative and best practice that can be shared across the Communications team. Develop strong working relationship with external partners or agencies to ensure the commercial value of work commissioned.

Crisis communications: Stay abreast of industry and divisional environment, in preparedness for any eventuality. Coordinate with SVP Internal Communications, VP Internal Communications, Functions and crisis response teams to provide guidance to leadership or site representatives to respond promptly and appropriately e.g., during times of crisis, managing sensitive people or potential employee relations issues.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Proven track-record of working on employee communications as part of high-impact, multi-year change programmes.
  • Excellent strategic capability and proven ability to deliver results in a complex environment.
  • Collaborative approach and proven track record of excellent teamwork with senior peers.
  • Experience in handling confidential information which may be business sensitive or related to government security.
  • Track record of managing external agencies to time and budget, ability to coach teams to get the best out of an agency.
