About Us

5 months temporary contract 

Our teams are putting the world’s retailers online using the cloud, robotics, AI, and IoT. We provide services to partner clients globally via our innovative advanced robotics technology, known as the Ocado Smart Platform ("OSP"), this drives our highly automated, multi-million pound Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs). In our CFCs - together with the proprietary software applications - we operate a world-class online grocery business that automates the single pick of products, ready for your online delivery.

About the Role

We're looking for a short term contractor to join us for around 5 months as the Internal Communications Manager, in which you will play a pivotal role in executing Ocado’s internal communications strategy, reaching a global audience across multiple sites and countries. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with stakeholders to provide expert guidance on communication strategies and approaches. You will also be responsible for enhancing our channel infrastructure, refining evaluation processes, and spearheading change programs and campaigns aimed at improving the overall employee experience.
Reporting to the Head of you will manage and mentor an Internal Communications Specialist, ensuring the team delivers impactful and cohesive communication initiatives.

Please Note: We offer a hybrid work environment, requiring at least two days in the office each week. This position is located at our Head Office in Trident Place, Hatfield.

What you will be doing 

  • Acting as a trusted advisor to colleagues, including senior leaders, being a sounding board and providing advice, coaching and constructively challenging as appropriate
  • Leading on communication strategies, considering global communication requirements including timezone, language and cultural difference.
  • Utilising analytical approach to include evidence-based best practice comms and engagement techniques and diagnosis of current state: people’s perceptions,concerns and needs
  • Applying continuous improvement to communications and channels, informed by insights and metrics to measure sentiment, engagement and colleague involvement.
  • Sharing best practice with the internal communications team and stakeholders across the business, to improve the success of engagement with our channels and employee campaigns.
  • Managing an annual campaign plan to energise and engage employees in our business success, to drive Partner success and support our people agenda
  • Writing and editing content for delivering across all channels, in collaboration with stakeholders and team members. 
  • Coaching key stakeholders in effective content creation and conversation opportunities/ techniques; encouraging the use of storytelling as a communication technique at all levels and ensuring shared understanding of content standards.
  • Championing User Generated Content (UGC), promoting a culture of co-creation and colleague involvement 

About you 

  • A proven track record as an effective Internal Communications Manager with a solid portfolio of employee facing campaign work.
  • Analytical mindset and ability to diagnose situations, research and apply knowledge, develop solutions and implement recommendations.
  • Ability to distil relevant theory and present simple and relatable recommendations to underpin strategy development.
  • Understanding of role of line managers in the communications mix and processes
  • Established experience of creating and executing a channel strategy including digital social channels
  • First class understanding of developing trends in digital internal communications and engagement
  • Experience writing various forms of engaging content inc. short form 
  • Experience of influencing colleagues and senior stakeholders and ‘pitching’ ideas for development
