What does an Interim People Director do at Busuu?

A unique opportunity has arisen for an ambitious People Director to join one of the fastest growing edtech companies in the world for the next 6 months (early January´26 to end of June´26). We are a team of 180+ talented and driven people with offices in London and Madrid looking for someone to help us on our journey!

You will strengthen a fully functional HR department, recruit and manage talent, help us with organisational design, coaching and development, and the implementation of learning and development programs. You will also support the GM and the Senior Leadership Team to define, implement and guard the right culture within our London and Madrid office.

Responsibilities:

  • Support your amazing team to deliver their priorities / OKR´s

  • Deliver a complete human resources capability that can scale as the company grows including:

    • Talent acquisition and onboarding (we are planning to double our team size over the next 2 years)

    • Learning and development

    • Employee engagement (e.g. we do quarterly engagement surveys)

    • Company Culture

    • Compensation and benefits

    • Talent management

    • HR information systems (HRIS) and payroll

    • Compliance and risk management (e.g. GDPR, IR35)

    • Disputes / grievance process

  • Contribute to long-term goals around business and people development, including succession planning

  • Provide leadership on people-related issues and policies across the
    Company developing company wellbeing, health and counseling policies

  • Provide useful data to help guide decision making, allow the company to scale effectively and efficiently, and create a better working environment and engaged culture

  • Develop and manage the department’s annual HR budget

  • Take oversight of the company’s culture together with the GM

  • Run Madrid and London office operations

  • Keep abreast of best practice, as well as the latest regulations, and continually improve our policies and processes

  • Act as People Team point of contact for Chegg to build on common opportunities / synergies 

What you will bring to the table:

  • At least 7+ years experience across Talent acquisition, HR business partner and generalist experience working in a high growth environment (i.e. minimum 50% YOY growth both in terms of revenue and size of team) 

  • Hold a relevant degree or equivalent practical experience with proof
    of HR related qualifications and experience in best practice

  • Experience in leading a People Operations or Human Resources team ideally in an organisation with >150 employees

  • Interest in edtech and language learning and ability to excite potential candidates about our industry
