Our Boeing Intellectual Property department (BIP) is seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Portfolio Professional to drive effective outcomes at our Wichita, Kansas location. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Commercial IP Patents, the successful candidate for this Intellectual Property Portfolio Professional position will be internal-client-facing to our Wichita clientele, manage all IP-related matters, develop and manage strategic IP portfolios in alignment with internal business objectives, and coordinate with outside counsel as needed. Our team is open to a broad range of experience levels including Experienced, Senior, and/or Expert level to find the best person for this position.
This employee will serve Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit's Commercial Business Units ("Spirit Commercial"). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing's three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial's core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Provide in-person IP support to internal clients in Wichita.
  • Develop and manage IP portfolios (patents and trade secrets) around client products and technologies in support of the client's business strategy, including invention harvesting, and managing outside counsel for both US and foreign patent prosecution.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor's degree or a higher degree in engineering, computer science, or a relevant technical discipline.
  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Three or more (3+) years of experience protecting innovations and associated intellectual property.
  • This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Five or more (5+) years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ten or more (10+) years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Business judgment and critical thinking.
  • Juris Doctorate degree preferred but not required for this position.
  • Advanced degrees (Master's or Ph.D.) in engineering are desirable.
  • Ten or more (10+) years of IP experience, including reviewing invention submissions, prosecuting patent applications, developing patent portfolios, and creating patent strategies.
  • Competitive IP analysis and IP conversations with outside counsel, inventors, and business leaders.
  • Experience protecting innovation in the field of aviation or aerospace.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary Pay Range: $113,450 - $173,950
