Your Mission
You will work closely with the Head of Legal to deliver on the Legal Team’s strategic plans and the overall company growth plan. We are constantly going through significant periods of change and growth, and this role will be a key component in supporting the commercial teams and putting the right processes in place to ensure the Legal Team can be first class.
How you’ll fit into the big picture
We are looking for an experienced mid-level Legal Counsel, who will provide in-house legal support and advice in relation to new and existing/renewing business and ensuring that we obtain the maximum commercial advantage from our business relationships whilst minimising/managing risk exposure. The advice and support will cover a range of legal issues including driving revenue and profit, legal and regulatory compliance, data protection and customer, supplier and partner relationships.
What you’ll be doing:
- Manage the legal risk exposure across all business areas and contract negotiations.
- Support the bids & tender and sales teams by reviewing tender documents and providing guidance on public framework agreements, ensuring legal compliance within offerings.
- Assist with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating standard agreements, including NDAs, vendor contracts, and customer agreements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide legal support and ensure consistency with company policies.
- Help identify and manage legal risks in day-to-day business activities, escalating complex issues to the Head of Legal.
- Work with the Head of Legal to enhance legal processes, structures, and policies.
- Advise on disputes, engage in settlements, and manage litigation proceedings.
- Improve standard form agreements, policies, and legal processes through regular compliance monitoring.
- Maintain the company's legal documents to reflect best practice and legal requirements.
- Monitor statutory/regulatory changes and prepare summaries for internal teams.
- Facilitate implementation of regulatory compliance, especially data privacy laws and GDPR.
- Help train employees on legal issues, including anti-corruption, ethics, and data protection. Creating training materials and delivering training.
- Maintain accurate legal records, including contracts, policies, and filings and ensure companies filings are complete and up to date at Companies House.
- Help co-ordinate intellectual property matters, including tracking filings and managing documentation.
- Participate in compliance audits and vendor assessments related to data privacy and contractual obligations.
- Contribute to process improvements, including contract workflows and document management systems.
- Act as a point of contact for routine legal queries from internal teams, escalating where necessary.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with company policies and legal requirements.
What experience we think you’ll need
- UK Qualified lawyer - 2-5 years PQE either with a law firm or in-house. Ideally, you will have a mix of private practice and in-house experience, but you may also be looking for your first in-house role.
- Experience reviewing, negotiating, creating and managing contracts with customers, partners, resellers, etc, to protect the interest and risk of the Company and to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Proven track record and ability to work in a high-pressure, sales driven environment with prompt and accurate responses to questions and production of work product.
- Evidence of taking ownership and ability to prioritise and deal with a wide range of business requirements with tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to simplify and effectively communicate legal information.
- Work with a high level of integrity, autonomy and responsibility.
- Public sector contract and framework experience would be an advantage but is not essential.
