The Role

At NEXT, life is fast and full on. Our legal team works right at the heart of our operations, delivering sharp, practical advice to support NEXT and our growing portfolio of brands. These include Victoria’s Secret, Joules, The GAP, Reiss, Made.com, Cath Kidston, Bath & Body Works, FatFace, Seraphine and Russell & Bromley.

We are a small, close-knit team that operates at a fast pace and to tight timescales. If you are a commercial lawyer ready to expand your skill set beyond drafting contracts and into specialist legal areas, this is an opportunity to challenge yourself, learn to evolve and make a genuine impact.

We invest in legal technology and continuously develop our digital skills to stay ahead and work smart.

What You Will Take On

This role is ideal for a commercial lawyer who brings a solid foundation in contract negotiation and wants to broaden their expertise across intellectual property, legal compliance and regulatory law.

You will work on high-quality and varied projects across our business and brand portfolio. From drafting concession agreements and SaaS contracts with well-known brands to supporting product clearance and managing non-contentious IP, you will have plenty of opportunity to grow as a lawyer.

  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts including concession and licensing agreements, SaaS contracts, purchasing terms, IP licences and consultancy agreements.

  • Advise internal colleagues on commercial legal requirements, ensuring practical and solution-focused guidance.

  • Develop expertise across intellectual property law by handling non-contentious IP and managing pre-action dispute matters.

  • Provide regulatory and legal compliance support, including advice on consumer law, competition law, pricing, advertising claims and product recalls.

  • Mentor legal assistants by reviewing standard contract templates, guiding trademark checks and assisting with contract management.

What We Are Looking For

To be successful in this role, you must be authorised to practice law by the Law Society or the Bar Council of England & Wales.

  • Qualified UK Solicitor

  • Proven experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts.

  • The ability to work at a fast pace, manage competing priorities and thrive under pressure.

  • A clear desire to expand your legal knowledge into IP, consumer law and regulatory compliance.

  • A pragmatic, commercial mindset that delivers practical solutions for internal teams.

  • Strong collaboration skills and a willingness to role-model great practice across the legal and compliance team.

  • Confidence using and adopting modern legal technology.
