The ESBO Product Management team is responsible for a suite of owned and operated products aimed at our range of Connected TVs, smartphones and tablets. We work very closely with colleagues across global Samsung teams to enhance and expand our services in multiple European territories. These services currently include Samsung TV Plus, Universal Guide, Content Search & Discovery, and Samsung Health.
The team known as the Samsung Distributed Tech Integrator (GTI) is spread across multiple locations. Their main objective is to improve the TV Plus ecosystem. This is achieved through the expertise of individuals in Product, Engineering, and Operations. The GTI team aims to deliver solutions that improve efficiency, reduce manual effort, enhance and refresh in-house capabilities and platform features, and ensure costs remain both reasonable and justifiable.
Role and Responsibilities
Your key responsibilities

Provide thought leadership and technical oversight for the EMEA Tech Ops team to support the delivery, monitoring, and service management of TV Plus across 19 countries.

Lead a diverse local and offshore team of 26 members dedicated to ingest and normalise content, launch linear channels / VOD content, develop media/tech solutions and troubleshoot outages

Provide ongoing subject matter expertise to projects to help guide solutions in the right direction during implementation

Maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of the systems and interfaces which support the development and operation of services
-
Proactively recommend and document standard methodologies and improvements to ensure the alignment of design and implementation of solutions.

Identify gaps in understanding between teams and suggest corrective actions where necessary
-
Gather requirements from the wider business and external entities (e.g. regulatory bodies) to inform development activities and priorities
-
Develop prototypes to validate proposed solutions
-
Facilitate communication between the EMEA Tech Ops team and the wider business to ensure the various collaborators remain well-informed
-
Ensure the team are meeting the expectations of the wider business, and provide guidance and mentoring in cases where individuals may fall short
-
Track, analyse and report performance, project status, workload, and SLAs
-
Ensure that business needs and priorities are well understood in order to effectively descale and prioritise work as necessary and maintain a manageable workload for the team
-
Produce documentation, including (but not limited to) platform design and technical specification, user guides, and knowledge bases / wikis
-
Make inspired contributions to the growing knowledge and code bases of the TV Plus team to help drive our product vision forward, and encourage others to do the same
-
Adhere to and contribute to Samsung Engineering procedures, code and security conventions, and standard processes

To be accountable for ensuring your team are compliant with company processes and procedures; such as compliance, meeting mandatory business cyclical deadlines, and understanding the company values.
What we need for this role
To be successful, you will possess the following skills and attributes:
-
Working knowledge of back-end technologies and formats pertinent to streaming and ad-insertion (e.g. HLS, DASH, CMAF, SSAI, APIs, XML, JSON) and commercial DRM solutions (Widevine, PlayReady)

Strong experience with live streaming and media management workflows
-
Impeccable communication skills and an ability to distil complex ideas into easily understandable components
-
Demonstrate a firm understanding of media workflow and API solutions (cloud and on premise) that help reduce time to business value and enhance QoE
-
Able to communicate and operate across multiple Product Management and technical teams providing outstanding support on digital media technologies
-
Comfortable working with and supporting large scale streaming applications across a growing number of territories
-
Knowledge of performance optimisation techniques and project/dev management tools including Jira
-
Performance driven approach - strong motivation to lead professionally and excel in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
-
Good workload management, time management, and clear task prioritisation
-
A passion for learning the latest technologies and standards
-
Delivered projects as Senior/Lead and led teams in the delivery of technical services
-
An ability to create and maintain comprehensive solution documentation
-
Experience of working for a large company spread across multiple locations and time zones where the spirit of collaboration, tolerance, and perseverance is required

Familiarity with one or more popular programming languages would be a strength
-
Experience with transcoding technologies and solutions including FFmpeg/AWS native media tools/ metadata parsing and manipulation is an advantage

The interview process

There will be two stages to the process, each involving an interview conducted via a video call, with the possibility of a third, more informal face-to-face meeting

Both interviews will be designed to test your knowledge and experience of the main responsibilities of the role and will give you a chance to describe your suitability. During the process we will also be looking at aspects such as your ability to cope with stress, multitasking and other skills needed for a busy working environment
