What Product Management is like at Gusto:

We’re looking for high-autonomy, entrepreneurial Product Managers to come build high-impact solutions for small businesses and their employees. We believe in high-ownership Product Managers who operate like business owners - owning an entire roadmap end-to-end and shipping product all the way from strategy through to the nitty gritty details (some describe this kind of role as a “GM” type role). Our Product team is lean, which means you’ll have a high degree of impact and ownership. We’re here to serve small and medium businesses. Gusto has a strong mission-driven culture, and we care deeply about lifting up these business owners.

About the Team:

At Gusto, the Tax Credits team is on a mission to empower small businesses by unlocking valuable savings through tax credits and grants. Operating like a “mini startup” within the company, we are a team driven by deep customer empathy, domain expertise, and a relentless desire to innovate. Our goal is to grow and add value to our customer base by continuously testing and refining tools that make a meaningful difference. If you’re passionate about solving big problems, driving lean experimentation, building 0-to-1 product experiences, and making a tangible impact on small business owners’ lives, we’d love to have you on our team.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Ownership: Take ownership of the business and our Tax Credit product from end to end. Creating a long-term vision and durable competitive advantage for Gusto.
  • North Star: Unlocking savings for SMBs through tax credits and grants.
  • Collaborate: Lead and develop a cross-functional team of Engineering, Design, Ops and Data Science on all stages of the product development process. Also partner with the Revenue team to grow the business and optimize its unit economics.
  • Understand customer pain points, devise solutions, and then iterate through prototyping and frequent, successful product launches.
  • Rapidly execute and iterate with an emphasis on user delight, impact, and learning. Regularly take risks and make calculated tradeoffs.

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • Possess 10+ years of hands-on product development leadership or General Manager (GM) experience within an R&D team in a modern technology business
  • Proven track record of building 0 to 1 products with nice to haves in:
    • Strong product discovery skills with the ability to navigate a high degree of ambiguity
    • Building 0 to 1 products in highly regulated categories
    • Experience building personalized products or optimized workflows using Gen AI/ ML
  • Builder at heart with strong product sense and POV on how to lead highly effective product development teams. Not afraid to get deep into the details and hands-on coach and lead our EPDD teams
  • Display strong strategic thinking skills, capable of evaluating multiple paths, making effective tradeoffs, and articulating a clear and compelling forward plan
  • The ability to tell a compelling story that drives alignment and inspires action
  • Strong collaboration skills; ability to quickly build trust
  • A passion for helping small businesses

If you don't think you meet all of the criteria below but still are interested in the job, please apply. Nobody checks every box, and we're looking for someone excited to join the team.
