Altana is the world’s first Value Chain Management System, a collaborative, public-private network that enables customers to take command of their extended supplier and distribution networks from raw material origins to the sale of finished products. By applying artificial intelligence to the world’s largest body of supply chain data, Altana reveals these previously opaque global networks and powers workflows across them. Customers like Boston Scientific, L.L.Bean, Maersk, US Customs and Border Protection, and the UK Department of Business and Trade use Altana to build secure, resilient, efficient, and sustainable global value chains.

We have built a fundamental understanding of how the world’s economy works, and the implications for global resiliency, sustainability and opportunity are enormous. Backed by leading investors and used by the world’s most important organizations, Altana powers a new era of globalization founded on a shared source of truth on the global supply chain.

This is a lofty mission, and our success depends on building a diverse, global team and fostering an environment in which it can thrive. We operate in accordance with our values: we embrace reality as we work to change it; we focus on value creation, not capture; we foster diversity and embrace difference; and we go on offense. When you join Altana, you’ll be joining a vibrant, collaborative team working together to solve complex problems with the potential for global societal impact.

The Opportunity at Altana

As the Head of Design at Altana, you will lead the charge in shaping the future of design for a groundbreaking platform that maps the global supply chain and powers trusted commerce. In this leadership role, you will define and execute a vision for design excellence, building  collaborative, intuitive workflows for the world’s largest multinational enterprises, logistics services providers, financial services providers, and government agencies; and you will help to drive a range of in-product collaboration and product-led growth initiatives that enable information and value exchange across the private and public sector.

You Will:

  • Develop and drive the overall product design vision for Altana’s product suite, aligning it with our product vision and strategy, business goals, and user needs.
  • Develop extensible design systems that apply across our product lines and customer segments; connect the dots between highly technical concepts, product strategy, and customer needs.
  • Leverage design to drive critical business objectives and metrics, including across user and organizational collaboration, network growth and adoption, and product-led growth initiatives.
  • Develop intuitive workflows that drive direct value to a range of user groups and use cases, and that enable collaboration and value exchange across industries and customer segments including multinational enterprises, logistics service providers, financial service providers, and government agencies.
  • Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing design team, fostering a culture of design excellence, execution, and impact.
  • Partner cross-functionally with product, engineering, data science, and go-to-market teams on product discovery, development, and delivery.
  • Lead user research and testing initiatives to deeply understand customer needs, with a focus on designing and launching products that enable user collaboration and promote network effects.
  • Oversee the creation of functional prototypes, visual designs, and interaction frameworks that support the analysis of complex data sets, including supply chain visualizations, knowledge graphs, dashboards, and reports.

You Have:

  • 10+ years of experience in product or UX design, with at least 4+ years in a leadership role overseeing multi-user enterprise SaaS products, including those with collaborative workflows and complex network interactions and incentives.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates your ability to solve complex design challenges, particularly with data-heavy, non-linear workflows, and a focus on enabling user collaboration and network effects.
  • Strong experience in designing at scale and building systems that drive consistency and efficiency across products.
  • Proven ability to lead and grow a design team, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to advocate for design vision and articulate its value to stakeholders.
  • A deep understanding of user research, testing methodologies, and the ability to translate findings into actionable design improvements.
  • Strong technical understanding, including comfort with CSS and React styling or a willingness to learn.
  • Passion for working in a high-growth startup environment, solving big, gnarly problems, and delivering impact at scale.

Bonus Points For:

  • A degree in HCI, design, or a related field.
  • Experience designing data visualizations, dashboards, or complex analytical tools.
