Role Summary

Marex is seeking a Head of Market Data to establish a dedicated Market Data Services function to ensure the firm can reliably, efficiently, and commercially manage all real‑time and reference data used across Marex. The Head of Market Data will own the end‑to‑end strategy, operating model, and execution across five core Market Data pillars: Commercial & Governance, Data Engineering, Operations & Support, Data Quality & Standards, and Product & Strategy. This role will lead an existing Market Data Commercial & Governance team, stand up a new Market Data Engineering team, partner with the Data Management and Enterprise Architecture teams, and ultimately build a centralised, modern, compliance‑driven, and cost‑efficient Market Data organisation for Marex.

Responsibilities

  • Build, mentor, and scale a multi-disciplinary Market Data function covering Commercial & Governance, Market Data Engineering, Operations & Support, Data Quality & Standards, and Product & Strategy.
  • Establish a unified operating model, consolidating currently siloed teams into a centralised capability, identifying capability gaps and defining a roadmap to address them.
  • Create a culture of accountability, innovation, cost discipline, and technical excellence.
  • Engage stakeholders across business streams and Technology to align priorities and deliver measurable value.
  • Drive the adoption of automation and advanced analytics within market data processes to improve efficiency and data-driven decision-making.
  • Champion data privacy and security best practices, ensuring all market data activities comply with internal and external standards.
  • Foster partnerships with external data providers and industry bodies to keep Marex at the forefront of market data innovation.
  • Develop and maintain robust disaster recovery and business continuity plans for market data services.
  • Oversee the implementation of key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and report on the effectiveness of market data operations.
  • Promote continuous professional development within the team, encouraging certifications and training in market data and related technologies.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Extensive experience (5+ years) across market data management within financial markets—brokerage, trading firm, exchange, or vendor.
  • Deep understanding of real-time feeds and reference data across a wide range of asset classes.
  • Expertise across exchange policies, licensing models, and vendor ecosystems.
  • Proven delivery of cost-optimisation programmes and governance frameworks.
  • Strong technical grounding in market data architecture.
  • Leadership experience building engineering and operational teams.
  • Excellent vendor negotiation skills and strong commercial acumen.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements affecting market data (e.g., MiFID II, GDPR).
  • Experience in vendor risk management and third-party due diligence.

Desirable:

  • Experience with commodities and energy data.
  • Background in cloud-native data architectures and market data modernisation.
  • Involvement in industry forums (e.g. FISD etc.).
  • Prior involvement in digital transformation initiatives within financial services.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and ESG data as it relates to market data.
  • Proficiency in data visualisation and reporting tools.
