The Head of Localisation is responsible for overseeing the global localisation strategy, ensuring that content, products, and marketing materials are adapted effectively for our global markets. This role will manage the localisation process from start to finish, ensuring linguistic accuracy, cultural relevance, and brand consistency across all localised assets. The Head of Localisation will lead a team of localisation managers and work cross-functionally with product, marketing, and copy teams to deliver seamless, high-quality localised experiences .

Responsibilities:


  • Localisation Strategy Development:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive localisation strategy that aligns with the company’s global goals
  • Oversee the localisation of content, products, and campaigns across multiple languages and markets
  • Ensure localisation processes are scalable, efficient, and integrated with the company’s overall workflows and timelines

  • Team Leadership and Management:

  • Manage a team of localisation managers, overseeing external translators and vendors, ensuring high-quality and timely delivery of localised content
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment, providing clear direction, feedback, and professional development opportunities
  • Establish performance metrics for the localisation team, regularly reviewing progress and ensuring goals are met

  • Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with product, content, marketing, and design teams to ensure localised content meets brand standards and market-specific requirements
  • Collaborate with relevant engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of localised content into product development and UX/UI design
  • Liaise with regional and in-market teams to gather insights and feedback on local market needs and preferences

  • Quality Assurance and Consistency:

  • Ensure all localised content maintains the same quality, tone, and brand voice as the source material
  • Help develop and maintain a glossary, style guide, and translation memory to ensure consistency across languages and markets
  • Manage quality assurance processes for all localised materials, conducting reviews and edits as necessary to maintain accuracy and cultural sensitivity

  • Vendor and Budget Management:

  • Select and manage external translation agencies and freelancers, ensuring they meet the company’s quality standards
  • Negotiate contracts with localisation service providers and monitor budgets to ensure cost-effective operations
  • Track the localisation budget, optimising resources for maximum efficiency and cost savings

  • Technology and Process Optimisation:

  • Identify and help implement technology solutions (e.g., translation management systems, CMS integrations) alongside product and technology teams to streamline the localisation process
  • Continuously improve localisation workflows to increase efficiency, scalability, and quality control
  • Leverage data and analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of localisation efforts, making recommendations for improvements

Requirements:


  • Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in localisation management or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
  • Proven experience managing large-scale localisation projects in multiple languages and markets
  • Experience in managing localisation for digital products, websites, and marketing campaigns

  • Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing internal teams and external vendors
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with marketing, product, engineering, and design teams
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a fast-paced environment

  • Technical & Analytical Skills:

  • Proficiency in localisation tools and platforms (e.g., translation management systems, content management systems)
  • Strong understanding of localisation best practices, including translation memory, glossaries, and quality assurance processes
  • Experience using data and analytics to track localisation performance and improve processes

  • Cultural & Linguistic Awareness:

  • Deep understanding of cultural nuances and linguistic differences across various markets
  • Familiarity with global markets, with the ability to adapt content and messaging to resonate with local audiences
