Join us as a Head of Investments and Portfolio Management

  • This is a high-profile role which will see you working with bank-wide senior stakeholders and leading, developing and line managing a professional, capable and engaged team to meet the needs of the business and customers
  • You’ll co-ordinate the annual investment portfolio planning and backlog prioritisation cycle, balancing strategic outcome, cost and benefit, delivering in support of the overall Transformation plan
  • We’ll look to you to ensure the bank-wide investment portfolio and execution are aligned to the bank’s purpose, strategy and risk appetite, with responsibility to manage the oversight of the Productivity, Property, Supply Chain & Investment Portfolio (PPSC&IP) transformation portfolio and the allocation of portfolio and change resources onto the department priorities

What you'll do

You’ll play a key role in Group Investments, being responsible for managing the Investment portfolio of over £1billion. In addition, you’ll be leading change delivery within the department.  Working in partnership with bank-wide senior stakeholders in Group Strategy, Finance and Business Leaders, you’ll ensure alignment between strategic outcomes and the investment portfolio, making recommendations on what should be accelerated or decelerated.

You’ll also oversee the forward-looking Transformation plan and transition states and provide validation that investment initiatives support the overall plan. We’ll look to you to manage the deployment of portfolio and change resources across PPSC&IP.

In addition, you’ll:

  • Establish and manage a transformation plan prioritisation forum, reviewing performance of outcomes and recommending adjustments to the investment plan as appropriate
  • Manage the oversight of the Strategic Investment portfolio, ensuring tight review of the investment process and managing the stage-gate funding decisions
  • Support the establishment of bank-wide business and technical architecture in partnership with key stakeholders
  • Lead a strategic portfolio of programmes, taking accountability for all programme plans, controls and resource plans, including its progress overall
  • Manage the strategic alignment process to the bank-wide strategy, ensuring resource is focussed on the right place for department and bank-wide success

The skills you'll need

We’re looking for someone with an established background in the financial services with an understanding of its key industry drivers and trends. You’ll have significant experience of strategic management and leadership, in a highly complex financial services environment.

We’ll expect you to have experience of developing best practices and methods, strategic advocacy and developing innovation and partnerships. We’ll also expect you to have strong networking, stakeholder management and influencing skills at a senior level.

You’ll also need:

  • To be a detail-oriented individual with strong financial literacy
  • Experience of successfully leading and motivating teams, with the ability to drive a strong performance culture
  • Experience of delivering strategic programmes that support the business strategy and its growth agenda
  • Strong influencing and relationship management skills with the ability and confidence to challenge opinions, and construct a compelling argument to support an opinion
  • Knowledge of financial services industry trends, development initiatives, architectural evolution and innovation
  • Knowledge of change frameworks and methodologies
  • A background in managing and controlling costs to a budget
