Job Description

The Head of International Sales will be a core member of the Butterfly Leadership Team and Executive Leadership Team, reporting to the Chief Excecutive Officer. This leader will own Butterfly’s commercial growth outside the US, leading direct and channel sales across EMEA, APAC, LATAM, and other priority international markets.

A primary focus will be building, scaling, and managing Butterfly’s global distribution network. This leader will own the full distributor lifecycle—from market prioritization and partner identification through negotiation, onboarding, launch, sell-through, and ongoing performance management.

Success will be measured by revenue growth and distributor productivity, not simply establishing partnerships. The Head of International Sales will ensure partners are positioned to succeed with clear go-to-market plans, training, pipeline and forecasting expectations, marketing support, and performance KPIs. They will maintain a rigorous operating cadence to drive demand, improve performance, and optimize or replace partnerships when needed.

This leader will also oversee Butterfly’s direct commercial presence, including the UK and Germany, and determine the right direct, distributor, or hybrid model by market. They will lead the international commercial team and partner closely with Sales Operations, Marketing, Professional Services, Finance, and Legal to build a repeatable model for entering and scaling international markets.

Additionally, the Head of International Sales will grow and lead our robust international sales team based across numerous markets and timezones.

We are looking for an entrepreneurial, highly commercial leader who can open new markets, build high-value distribution partnerships, and turn those partnerships into sustainable revenue growth.

Qualifications

Baseline skills/experiences/attributes:

Sales & Distribution Leadership

  • 15+ years of Sales Leadership and/or Commercial Leadership experience, with significant experience leading international markets.
  • Demonstrated success building and scaling distributor and channel partner networks across multiple countries or regions.
  • Proven ability to identify, recruit, evaluate, negotiate with, onboard, and launch new distribution partners.
  • Track record of driving measurable sell-through and revenue growth through distributors, beyond simply signing or managing partner agreements.
  • Experience establishing distributor business plans, revenue targets, pipeline expectations, forecasting processes, KPIs, and performance management cadences.
  • Demonstrated ability to enable distributors through sales training, product education, marketing programs, demand generation, and joint customer engagement.
  • Experience managing underperforming distributors, including developing corrective action plans, renegotiating commercial arrangements, and transitioning to new partners when appropriate.
  • Ability to assess new markets and determine the appropriate commercial model, including direct, distributor, or hybrid approaches.
  • Previous healthcare/medical device sales experience, preferably with ultrasound equipment and/or highly transactional medical device sales.
  • 5+ years of field sales experience within the Medical Device industry.
  • Experience selling SaaS or cloud-based enterprise software; EMR and Healthcare IT sales experience preferred.
  • Ability to identify the key aspects of a potential opportunity, nurture opportunities through close, engage channel partners effectively, and manage customer relationships through long-term success.
  • Strong track record of using data, analytics, and commercial insights to make decisions and allocate resources.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 50% internationally, with overnight stays depending on geography and business needs.
  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills, with executive presence and experience building C-suite relationships and confidently representing the value and capabilities of Butterfly’s products.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce or comparable CRM platforms and familiarity with business and analytical tools such as Tableau, Power BI, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Self-driven and highly accountable, with the perseverance to achieve ambitious goals in complex and evolving international markets.
  • Comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial, dynamic, and rapidly changing environment

People & Partner Leader

  • Collaborative, team-oriented leadership style with the ability to influence across functions and geographies.
  • Proven track record of hiring, developing, coaching, and retaining high-performing commercial teams.
  • Ability to lead geographically distributed sales teams and effectively escalate and support strategic opportunities.
  • Strong ability to build relationships with distributor owners, executives, sales leaders, and field teams, creating alignment and accountability at multiple levels of a partner organization.
  • Ability to create a high-performance culture across both Butterfly employees and external distribution partners.
  • Skilled at balancing strong partner relationships with clear commercial accountability, including having difficult performance conversations when required.
