The role 

The Head of Internal Communications will lead our company-facing communications efforts, engaging employees and ensuring their understanding of the FT’s ambitious plans for global growth in subscriptions, paying audiences, and new products and services. This role works closely with the FT’s senior leadership team to develop strategies and content for internal audiences, providing trusted advice and guidance to senior stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of designing proactive communications strategies, building strong relationships with senior executives, and guiding companies through business transformation. They will also be a people manager with a positive, collaborative approach, willing to lead by example.


Key responsibilities

  • Oversee the global employee communications programme and tools, including intranet, email newsletters, and other internal channels.
  • Write materials for senior leadership, including monthly business updates, decks, and briefs; act as a trusted advisor to the management board.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver global staff events, such as town halls, AI/data learning weeks, and annual senior management offsites.
  • Deliver major company reporting, including our annual business update; sustainability and impact reports, and more.
  • Execute strategic internal communications around major corporate milestones, including leadership transitions, business announcements, and M&A activities.
  • Directly manage in the UK, and work collaboratively with global communications team members to advise on regional internal communications efforts.

Required skills and experience 

  • Significant professional experience in internal communications within the media, publishing or technology fields - or another high-profile, complex global business.
  • Proactive approach with a proven track record in implementing successful, multichannel communications strategies, with an emphasis on change management.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to quickly establish strong working relationships with colleagues at all levels.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interest in business, news, and current affairs.
  • DESIRABLE: Knowledge of currently available AI tools and their applications within business.
