Role Purpose:

To provide leadership to the Tax Team, including as a key member of the Tax Leadership Team ; drive the strategy of the indirect tax team and provide leadership to the VAT and IPT leads; to support the Head of Tax with change initiatives; to be the senior point of contact with the Market on indirect taxes; to lead, manage and inspire the resources of the Team to achieve agreed objectives and to manage work within agreed budgets. 

Principal Accountabilities:

Indirect Taxes

  • Overseeing all indirect tax processes for The Corporation of Lloyd’s;

  • providing leadership and direction to the Indirect Tax Team;

  • building and maintaining a holistic view of the required indirect tax projects and areas of focus and ensuring these are resourced and prioritised appropriately;

  • building and maintaining relationships with the Market as the senior contact for indirect taxes;

  • building and maintaining relationships with tax authorities as the senior contact for indirect taxes;

  • lobbying of, and liaison with, UK and other tax authorities, in conjunction with advisers where necessary, to try to ensure tax rules around the world do not disadvantage Members vs comparable organisations;

  • leading, developing and being accountable for the performance of their team;

  • contributing to departmental planning, budgeting and organisation.

  • Leading and delivering change initiatives within the team, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and driving continuous improvement.

Skills:

  • Ability to manage several strands of work to a coherent conclusion and to translate into outcomes

  • A collaborative and inclusive approach to management of all stakeholders

  • Ability to identify the need for and actively enable people-development in diverse teams

  • Demonstrates a proactive approach to change, embracing innovation and fostering adaptability to drive continuous improvement.

Knowledge:

  • Broad and deep knowledge of relevant legislative provisions

  • Knowledge of the insurance industry and awareness of the Lloyd’s market.

Experience:

  • Solid and broad grounding in UK indirect / premium taxes

  • An awareness of significant EU and non-EU issues

  • Experience of dealing with tax authorities

  • Experience of Managing Tax Teams.
