Purpose

GAM, established in 1983, has built a reputation for excellence in managing equity, fixed income, multi-asset and alternative investments, and is known for its ability to deliver sophisticated, diversified strategies across global markets. GAM is currently building out a dedicated GAM Alternatives unit to complement GAM's existing investing capabilities, and is in the process of launching several new strategies under the unit.

This new role has been created to facilitate trading and entire “trade life-cycle” operations for GAM Alternatives funds and, in conjunction with GAM Operations teams, establish and maintain effective procedures and internal controls to maintain an institutional quality trading and operational environment within GAM Alternatives.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Liaise with trading and monitor global event-driven and special situations investments, in conjunction with GAM Trading Operations

  • Monitor and source trading ideas, ECM opportunities, new IPOs and secondary placings

  • Regular intra-day communications with investment teams on news flow relating to positions, industry, general market, and macro news flow

  • Help update and maintain research models (M&A, holding companies, share classes, stubs, etc.)

  • Help maintain prime brokerage, trading counterparty and third-party research relationships.

  • Work with Prime Brokers and internal GAM operations teams on collateral and cash management, meeting margin calls, and ensuring FX accuracy both at the position and portfolio level

  • Monitor NAVs, portfolio pricing, portfolio risk, financing, stock loan, dividend optimization and corporate actions

  • Coordinate risk management efforts between GAM Alternatives and GAM Risk Management

  • Ensure accuracy of NAV, performance, and risk measurement

  •  Drive automation initiatives, ensure operational efficiency and lowest cost delivery via constant interaction with the broader GAM operations teams, GAM Cantab, prime brokers, custodians, and administrators

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven track record in a similar role within a Trading Operations environment

  • Experience of event-driven investment strategies

  • Experience with raising orders and monitoring portfolios on mainstream Order Management Systems

  • Strong knowledge of trade lifecycle

  • Experienced working with Risk Management and Prime Brokerage

  • Comprehensive stakeholder management and communication skills

  • Professional industry qualification an advantage

  • Adherence to all regulatory requirements applicable to the role
