We invite applications for a Head of Flight Operations (Nominated Person), based at our Dyce Avenue premises (Aberdeen).

The Head of Flight Operations (HOFO) derives their authority from, and is directly responsible to, the Accountable Manager – UK OES.  The HOFO has authority over all matters pertaining to Operational Control, and over the managers and personnel that he/she supervises.  The HOFO has overall responsibility for all Company helicopter operations conducted under their AOC.  The HOFO must meet the requirements of UK Regulation (EU) No. 965/2012 ORO.AOC.135.  They will assist in establishing and implementing those programs necessary to ensure UK regulatory and Global Flight Standards requirements are satisfied.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safely and cost-effectively managing Company aircraft operations.
  • Managing and implementing any applicable procedural or certificate changes for ongoing business needs with respect to Flight Operations.
  • Ensuring Flight Operations compliance with internal procedures and any agreed customer requirements.
  • Interfacing with the CAA in matters relating to flight operations.
  • Liaison with CAMO for matters affecting continued airworthiness and aircraft availability.
  • Collaboration with the CAMO and Ground Operations Manager regarding scheduled flights to ensure high crew efficiency and customer service.
  • Collaboration with the Head of Training regarding procedural changes, training scheduling, standards (Part B and D) and staffing efficiency.
  • Editorial ownership of Operations Manuals Part A and C and other relevant ops manuals.
  • Working collaboratively with Global Safety and Standards teams, as well as other regional Post Holders, to establish and refine departmental processes and ensure alignment with global initiatives.
  • To conduct quarterly Flight Operations Safety Awareness Groups (SAGs) and participate in Safety Review Board meetings.
  • Support HFDM program iaw Global Safety defined process and procedures.  
  • Managing the Operations Department’s expenses and staff with a focus on efficiency.
  • Being an active member of UK safety steering groups and ensuring investigations and risk assessments for flight operations are prioritized for closure.
  • Holding those within Flight Operations to a high standard of compliance and company core values. Initiating discipline per Just Culture matrix any variance standards or company core values.
  • Providing input on Rosters, compensation, and efficiencies to HR and Accountable Manager for any needed changes with respect to the company collective agreement with pilot’s unions (BALPA).
  • Approving and/or recommending promotions, reclassifications, transfers, dismissals, and leaves of absence of all Operations Department employees.
  • All duties specified in QID 165 Operations Manual Part A Section 1.3.
  • Performing all other duties assigned by the Accountable Manager - UK OES.

PERSON SPECIFICATION: (minimum education requirements, key skills and experience)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Meets the requirement to hold HOFO in the UK.
  • UK CAA ATPL(H)
  • UK Class 1 Medical
  • Must be acceptable to the Civil Aviation Authority as a nominated person flight operations.
  • Right to live and work in the UK.
  • Locally based (Aberdeenshire) or willing to relocate.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience operating in the North Sea offshore environment.
  • Valid ratings appropriate to a type of operation conducted under the AOC.
  • Previous management experience in a similar role or having a strong Supervisory background.
  • Working knowledge of Offshore Operations, UK Regulations and Customer IOGP recommendations.

  • Possess the ability to negotiate and influence with both internal and external customers to ensure adoption of standard processes.
  • Possess the ability to teach and mentor other staff members.
