As the Head of Financial Reporting, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and accuracy of our financial reporting, which is essential to our mission. You will lead a dedicated team responsible for the consolidation of Group statutory reporting under IFRS, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and maintaining robust internal controls. This role is key to supporting our commitment to transparency and excellence in financial management.
How you’ll help us make health happen:
- Consolidation of Results: Ensure financial accounting throughout Bupa complies with the latest accounting guidance and policies. Prepare the Group’s consolidated statutory accounts for Half Year and Full Year periods, and support Group reporting under Solvency II.
- Financial Analysis: Provide high-quality financial analysis to assist with better decision-making.
- Annual and Interim Reports: Coordinate and produce the Group’s Annual and Interim Reports, ensuring compliance with disclosure requirements and maintaining clear timelines for data submission.
- Technical Accounting: Maintain a comprehensive technical accounting policy manual and provide guidance on complex Group commercial transactions.
- Team Leadership: Lead, motivate, and develop a team of qualified and graduate accountants, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain engagement with key senior stakeholders, including the CEO, CFO, and Group Director of Performance and Finance Transformation, to ensure their feedback is incorporated into financial reporting.
- Audit Coordination: Coordinate with the Group’s external auditors to support their audit of the financial statements.
- Process Improvement: Champion adherence to the Group Financial Control Framework and drive improvements in processes and decision-making.
Key Skills/Qualifications needed for this role:
- Professional qualification (ACCA, ACA, CPA)
- Excellent knowledge of IFRS and its application (incl. Insurance company accounting)
- Detailed knowledge of UK external reporting requirements and group consolidations.
- Ability to act as a change agent and champion and deliver change and continuous improvement throughout team and the wider finance function.
- A high control standards mindset and the ability to design and implement a sound reporting control environment.
- Proven leadership attributes with the ability to translate and implement strategic vision through people management and development activities.
- Effective people skills, including influencing, to liaise with market units, business units, information suppliers and external auditors.
- Comprehensive financial reporting knowledge with demonstrable success of operating at a senior level within the financial services sector, ideally in insurance.
- Strong practical commercial experience with an understanding of Bupa’s marketplace.
- Experience of operating in a regulated environment.
- First-hand experience of delivering reporting solutions in a complex and decentralised environment.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously with high quality results
- Ability to adapt to changing and sometimes ambiguous situations
- Strong analytical and problem solving abilities
- Experience of working with project / programme teams in the effective delivery of change.
