As the Head of Finance at Black Forest Labs, you will lead the financial planning, reporting, and budgeting functions. Your role will involve developing financial models, overseeing operations, managing cash flow, and ensuring compliance across business entities, while partnering with executives to guide the company's financial strategy.
Black Forest Labs is a cutting-edge startup pioneering generative image and video models. Our team, which invented Latent Diffusion, Stable Diffusion, Stable Video Diffusion, and FLUX.1, is currently seeking a talented Head of Finance to build out the finance function for Black Forest Labs. As our Head of Finance you’ll be responsible for our day to day financial planning, managing budgeting/spend, forecasting, reporting, etc. As the first dedicated Finance person, you will be working closely with the CEO and the executive team to set the direction for the company’s finance org and long term growth.
The role is located in one of our key hubs (San Francisco, Germany or London) as a preference.
Role
- Develop, implement and continuously refine financial models and rolling forecasts to support the company's strategic objectives and ensure flexibility in planning
- Design and implement scalable financial controls and accounting infrastructure
- Lead financial strategy and consolidated reporting across multiple business entities while ensuring regulatory compliance
- Oversee all aspects of financial operations including AR/AP, monthly bookkeeping and reconciliation
- Lead tax and compliance efforts alongside third-party vendors and partners
- Manage cash flow planning and optimisation
- Partner with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights that drive business decisions
- Support strategic initiatives, including pricing strategies and longer-term financial planning
- Establish efficient processes that can scale with BFL's growth
Ideal Experience
- 10 years of relevant FP&A experience, with a very deep mastery of all nuances of accounting, and ideally at a fast growing B2B company
- Strong understanding of multi-entity, international financial operations
- Deep expertise in financial modeling, planning, and analysis
- Experience in scaling finance operations and implementing ERP systems in high-growth environments without a large team around you
- Knowledge of transfer pricing principles and their impact on financial reporting
- Professional accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent), Advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
- Outstanding communication abilities with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Excitement about working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt well to change
- Experience working with both API and licensing based revenue models

- Genuine interest and experience in AI companies
- You are very adept at operating at all levels with the ability to be hands-on while also keeping an eye on the strategic big picture
- Proficiency in German
