Job Description

Head of Design Engineering 

Innovative and Entrepreneurial technical manager with ability to determine both the technical vision and set the commercial strategy. You will have the drive to lead, motivate, and inspire a team to constantly improve its position within a new exciting economy.

Global leader in design of electrification systems to automotive, wind, rail, marine and aerospace.

Deliver class-leading integrated electric drives which enable: Weight Reduction, Reduced Costs, Less Volume & Higher Efficiency - new technologies implemented in real life in order to engineer a better world. Complete design and analysis of electro-mechanical systems. Including electrical machine design and analysis, electromechanical system integration and control.

The role:

Commercially minded and Entrepreneurial engineering manager with technical vision and track record in business growth. Wide ranging and very senior global role – both technical and commercial with focus on growing the business.Track record in successfully developing and growth of hi tech company essential.

Responsibilities

·Technology Leader for design, development & delivery of innovative world class electro-mechanical drive solutions. Provide both Technical Vision and Commercial Strategy to drive business forward.

  • Expand solutions on offer & leverage current offerings
  • Deliver design IP for electro mechanical systems – drive & power systems, controls, electrical systems, electric motors, gearboxes

·IP management

  • Management – cross functional including design engineering, BD, Sales, product, Business Development, managing clients

·Developing global business model

·Strategic partnerships and joint ventures.

·Able to see the bigger picture as well as the finer details as the role encompasses high level strategic direction as well as project specific challenges.

·The ability to liaise at all levels including peers, clients, suppliers and the senior team is a key part of the success of this role.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Mechanical or electrical design engineering background
  • Degree in Mechanical / Electrical engineering or other relevant discipline.
  • Design in any of: electro mechanical systems/ transmission / drive & power systems, controls, electrical systems, electric motors, gearboxes
  • Global, multi-disciplined project team management experience
  • Key account management & preferably business development
  • Client facing & and an understanding of customer needs.
  • Commercially minded & track record in growing business.
  • Leadership & management – ideally in small or medium size company

Preferable

·8+ years in a technology environment ideally from combined product & service business

·Electrification

·Further Degree /Professional qualification

·Experience in China or India

·Business Development / NPI/ Strategic Key Account Management

·Background in any of: Automotive, Aerospace, Marine, Rail & Renewables.

·Variety of OEMs, Tier 1, Tier 2, Start ups, Engineering Consultancy

·Mix of different size companies: small, medium, large

NB: This is a senior Role for Very Experienced & Senior Engineering Manager with up to date technical knowledge in Electric or Mechanical Design Engineering. And have track record in business growth.
