Position Summary

This role will lead the DTC (Direct-To-Consumer) Commercial Finance Team. This is a huge strategic priority for Samsung, meaning a phenomenal variety and scope within the role, along with the opportunity to shape and influence this growing part of the business!
The team's vision is to "bring value beyond the numbers" and it has 5 core focus areas: Profitable Growth, Innovation & Change, Reporting & Insight, Financial Accuracy and Business Process.
The team is there to support and drive the growth of our DTC business, across both online (E-Store) and offline (Retail) channels, and they play a pivotal role in ensuring financial performance is increased encompassing many functions including Commercial, Marketing, Operations, Customer Experience, as well as collaborating with SEUK divisional teams and partners.

Role and Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities

The Head of Commercial Finance DTC role is critical for ensuring that DTC sales growth is maximised whilst delivering a strong profit contribution. The role can be broken down into 6 key areas of responsibility:

Business partnering and commercial support

  • Trusted member of the DTC Leadership team, collaborating with DTC senior leadership and other key partners

  • Provide commercial insight and challenge to DTC strategy and initiatives

  • Deliver effective financial support and knowledge to the group

  • Owning the budget management

New business models and growth strategies

  • Responsible for financial innovation of key propositions and business areas

  • Work with the team on emerging business models and trends, to deliver growth

  • Provide financial critique and evaluation of new opportunities

  • Key decision maker in implementation of growth strategies

  • Management of relationship external stakeholders – for example Finance / Bank Executives

Financial planning and forecasting

  • Ensure DTC business forecast is accurately represented to the wider business

  • Communicate effectively any risks/opportunities in the forecast

  • Unblock process, systems, or data challenges to ensure accuracy

P&L management and profit mind-set

  • Ensure that DTC P&L is accurately presented and in line with accounting principles

  • Work with wider teams to ensure P&L is well understood within and outside of team

  • Engender a profit mentality in the team and deliver profit improvement

Reporting, analysis and insight

  • Ensure consistent and accurate reporting output from the team

  • Provide relevant adhoc evaluation to drive financial performance

  • Work alongside the data management functions to improve data and access

Financial management, governance and control

  • Innovate financial processes to ensure business flexibility is optimised

  • Be aware of external and internal risks/regs around selling direct-to-consumer

  • Ensure adherence to policy and process

Your key people management responsibilities – Leading Others Only

  • Provide clarity on strategy, team purpose & value and define the focus and direction.

  • Support the development of your team through regular mentoring, coaching and feedback, 1:1s and on the job learning opportunities.

  • Role model inclusion for your team to build trust and psychological safety.

  • Ensure communication with your team is a core focus area including cascade of information from LT’s and relevant business updates.

  • Manage the on boarding, off boarding process and the entirety of the colleague lifecycle process for all team members.

  • Manage all annual people management cycles such as goal setting, evaluation and salary reviews to a high quality and in a timely manner.

  • To be accountable for ensuring your team adheres to company processes and procedures, including meeting crucial business deadlines and understanding what we value.

What we need for this role

To be successful, you will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Fully-qualified accountant (CIMA preferred)

  • Experience in a similar role - working in technology or FMCG sectors

  • Strong grasp of systems within an intricate, large scale organisation

  • Skilled in inspiring changes in advanced business processes

  • Expert-level competence in collaborator management and influencing

  • High proficiency in financial simulations (e.g. business casing, return on investment, break-even, etc)

  • Strong commercial competence and business sense

  • Ability to work at speed in a high pressure environment, take quick and effective decisions and direct others

  • Excellent analytical skills to understand business drivers and interpret financial results

  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively at all levels, get key messages across succinctly and work with others

  • Proven track record in demonstrating accountability and ownership; a proactive approach

  • Strong influencing skills to persuade management that your conclusions are accurate and acquire consensus.

  • High level of attention to detail

  • Effective business partnering with senior leaders to operate strategically

  • Experience of working within D2C or E-Commerce

  • Background in a sales environment

  • Exposure of working across cultural backgrounds

  • Proficiency in a fast-growth environment
