How does this role contribute to our collective success?
AXIS is seeking a Head of Claims Value Stream to join our Business Technology Services (BTS) division. This role is accountable for end-to-end ownership of the Claims value stream, driving enterprise-wide transformation across claims capabilities, technology platforms, and operating models.
As a strategic partner to Claims executive leadership, this role will define and execute a multi-year vision and investment strategy that enhances business performance, improves customer outcomes, and drives sustainable competitive advantage. The role blends business and technology leadership, with full accountability for value realization, financial performance, and delivery outcomes across the claims ecosystem.
 

The Head of Claims Value Stream will lead a globally distributed, cross-functional organization, shaping how AXIS delivers claims capabilities through modern Agile practices, emerging technologies, and continuous innovation.

What will you do in this role?

  • Own end-to-end performance of the Claims value stream, including strategy, execution, financials, and measurable business outcomes (e.g., cycle time, loss ratio, cost efficiency, customer experience).

  • Define and drive the enterprise Claims technology and process strategy, aligning with corporate objectives and long-term growth priorities.

  • Develop and manage a multi-year investment roadmap and portfolio, balancing business value, cost, risk, and speed-to-market.

  • Act as the primary technology advisor to Claims executive leadership, shaping strategic decisions and influencing enterprise priorities.

  • Establish and govern value realization frameworks, ensuring all investments are tied to quantifiable business outcomes.

  • Lead large-scale transformation initiatives, including platform modernization, automation, advanced analytics, and AI-enabled capabilities.

  • Oversee the design and evolution of the Claims operating model, ensuring alignment between business, technology, and delivery teams.

  • Drive cross-functional alignment across underwriting, finance, operations, and risk to optimize end-to-end value delivery.

  • Build and lead a high-performing, globally distributed organization, including senior leaders across product management, engineering, architecture, and delivery.

  • Own portfolio financials, including budgeting, forecasting, cost optimization, and ROI realization for a significant investment portfolio.

  • Establish governance and accountability structures to ensure execution excellence, risk management, and regulatory compliance.

  • Manage strategic vendor and partner relationships, optimizing value from external capabilities and services.

  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, leveraging emerging technologies to differentiate AXIS’s claims capabilities in the market.

  • Champion and mature Agile and product operating models at scale, driving consistency, accountability, and performance.

  • Represent AXIS externally in industry forums, partnerships, and innovation ecosystems.

About You
We are looking for a forward-thinking, enterprise leader who brings a balance of strategic vision, operational excellence, and deep domain expertise. You are comfortable operating at the executive level while also driving disciplined execution across complex, matrixed environments.

What you need to have

  • 12–15+ years of progressive leadership experience, including senior or executive roles in technology and business transformation

  • Extensive experience within the insurance domain (P&C), with deep expertise in claims

  • Proven track record of leading large-scale transformation programs and delivering measurable business outcomes

  • Experience owning and managing large investment portfolios and budgets with clear accountability for ROI and value realization

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and partner with executive stakeholders

  • Strong experience with Agile, product-based operating models, and modern software delivery practices at scale

  • Proven ability to lead global, matrixed organizations, including leading leaders and building high-performing teams

  • Deep understanding of claims systems, data/analytics, automation, and emerging technologies (e.g., AI/ML)

  • Strong financial acumen, including business case development, cost optimization, and portfolio prioritization.

  • Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.

  • Outstanding communication and executive presence, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.

Role Factors
In this role, you will typically be required to:

  • Embrace the hybrid culture offered at AXIS, working in the office approximately 3 days per week.

  • Operate in a fast-paced, highly matrixed global environment with significant executive interaction.

  • Travel as needed to support global teams, leadership alignment, and strategic initiatives.

  • NYC/NJ preferred, but not limiting

For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of $230,000 to $260,000. Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including your specific experience and work location.  

In addition, you will be offered competitive target incentive compensation, with awards based on overall corporate and individual performance. On top of this, you will be eligible for a comprehensive and competitive benefits package which includes medical plans for you and your family, health and wellness programs, retirement plans, tuition reimbursement, paid vacation, and much more.
