Role Overview

We are looking for a high-impact Regional Director, Business Development to drive growth across West Africa. This is a hunter and strategist role, responsible for identifying, unlocking, and scaling high-value partnerships across multiple markets. You will own regional growth, shape market strategy, and play a key role in building the commercial engine that drives long-term scale.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Drive Regional Growth & Revenue

  • Accountability: Own the regional P&L and take full responsibility for hitting ambitious revenue targets.
  • Pipeline Excellence: Build and aggressively manage a high-quality pipeline of strategic opportunities.
  • Full Lifecycle Execution: Lead the end-to-end deal cycle, from initial origination and pitching to final closure.
  • Revenue Sustainability: Ensure that every partnership is structured to deliver long-term, scalable, and sustainable revenue.
  • Growth Mindset: Act as the primary driver for regional expansion; you are the ultimate owner of the growth engine.

Strategic Market Development

  • GTM Strategy: Design and execute a sophisticated regional go-to-market strategy that aligns with Turaco’s global vision.
  • Priority Mapping: Identify and prioritize high-potential markets, industry segments, and anchor partners.
  • Commercial Evaluation: Rigorously assess opportunities based on their potential for scalability and revenue impact.
  • Product Evolution: Collaborate with internal teams to provide market-led insights on product design, pricing, and competitive positioning.

Stakeholder & Deal Leadership

  • Executive Presence: Build and nurture high-level relationships with C-suite executives, founders, and key regulators.
  • Complex Negotiations: Lead high-stakes negotiations for strategic partnerships that require creative and technical structuring.
  • Ecosystem Navigation: Maneuver through complex, multi-stakeholder environments to unblock bottlenecks and accelerate deal flow.

Team Building & Leadership

  • Talent Mentorship: Support the hiring, onboarding, and professional development of Business Development talent as the regional footprint expands.
  • High-Performance Culture: Cultivate a team environment defined by extreme ownership, performance excellence, and accountability.

Build Systems & Commercial Discipline

  • Operational Rigor: Establish and maintain structured pipeline management, CRM discipline, and transparent reporting.
  • Process Standardization: Drive regional consistency in how opportunities are sourced, tracked, and transitioned to account management.
  • Strategic Intelligence: Systematically capture market insights and competitor data to refine the broader company strategy.

Key Qualifications & Your Profile

  • ​​Lives Turaco's values - pushing boundaries, working with excellence, and a profound respect for the individual.
  • Proven Sales Architecture: 7–12 years of experience in Sales or Business Development leadership, specifically focused on B2B2C or large-scale enterprise deals. You don’t just close deals; you design long-term partnership ecosystems.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Business or related fields 
  • A fast-paced, creative thinker who doesn't wait for leads to land in their inbox. You have a "hunter" mindset with a proven ability to map out untapped markets and identify high-value opportunities.
  • Excellent team player with strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Regional Context: Experience working across East Africa and an understanding of local insurance regulations.
  • Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with API-driven products or tech platforms, as Turaco’s value prop is heavily tech-integrated.
  • Network: An existing senior contact list within the financial services or telecommunications sectors.
