The Nationwide brand was relaunched in October 2023, and now two and a half years on, has market-leading broadcast comms, winning Kantar’s Brand Z - Brand of the Year for 2025. As the Head of Brand, Social, Content, and Employer Communications, you will play a pivotal role in continuing this progress, shaping how millions of consumers and experience the Nationwide brand. 

 

Operating at a senior level, you will be responsible for deploying, elevating, and protecting the Nationwide brand across all audiences and channels. You will have end-to-end oversight of creative development, ensuring best-in-class execution that fulfils our purpose of “Banking – but fairer, more rewarding and for the good of society” and delivers strong recognition amongst consumers. 

 

You will be a thought leader, championing brand and creative excellence within the business. Working closely with other senior leaders across the organisation, you’ll ensure that the Nationwide brand is consistently deployed to a high standard across all customer touchpoints. You will build a culture of creativity, collaboration, accountability, and excellence, utilising your knowledge and experience to develop the team and grow capability across the organisation. 

 

You will be joining an exceptional brand and marketing team made up of talented, passionate individuals who have a proven track record of delivering award-winning results. This is a 12 month Fixed Term Contract.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon or London office, and as part of this role, you will be expected to travel to Swindon, London, Glasgow and Newcastle regularly. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

 

You will lead a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team accountable for brand management, governance, design, content creation, social media, creators and influencers, retail brand marketing, employer communications, integrated communications, campaign management, and brand activation.

 

As a champion of brand excellence, you will provide brand leadership across the organisation, driving the Nationwide brand forward. You will be accountable for activating the brand, translating brand strategy into real‑world experiences and environments that customers and colleagues interact with, including digital channels, branches, and employer brand expression and activation. 

 

You will provide creative oversight and judgement across materials created through our industry-leading in-house team and agency partners. You will be accountable for managing agency and production relationships across brand, social, content, design, and employer comms to ensure effectiveness, appropriate risk management, and value. 

 

You will set the vision and direction for the Nationwide social media channels, including content strategy, channel development, and storytelling. Additionally, you will provide oversight for all social media, creator and influencer content, working closely with external social and content agencies to ensure the delivery of distinctive, on-brand, high-performing output. 

 

Added to this, you will lead the delivery and coordination of integrated communications, ensuring seamless coordination across all communications disciplines, including the delivery of all major brand campaigns and communications priorities from strategy through execution.

 

Furthermore, you will be responsible for the management and governance of the Nationwide Brand, driving consistent adherence to brand principles across the organisation, ensuring all teams apply the brand correctly and cohesively. This includes responsibility for all brand controls and governance, including reporting.


 

About you

 

As a minimum, you will have/be:

 

  • Proven senior leadership experience across brand, creative, social, PR, content, and integrated communications
  • Exceptional creative judgement and ability to evaluate and elevate ideas across varied disciplines
  • Demonstrable ability to deliver high-profile campaigns and complex cross-organisational initiatives
  • Strong stakeholder and executive engagement capabilities, including influencing at senior level
  • A track record of leading large multidisciplinary teams and complex agency ecosystems
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to move seamlessly between vision, execution, and operational detail
  • A collaborative leader who is analytical, creative, and confident but works to create brilliant teams
  • Proven ability to work at pace, balancing multiple stakeholders’ needs and prioritising effectively
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing and be able to present information to senior executives and the wider team
  • Exceptional influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively and secure team and senior leader alignment
