As a Global Nature And Social Risk Associate in the Global Nature and Social Risk Management team, you will be at the forefront of assessing and managing nature and social risks. You will collaborate with various internal teams and clients, providing oversight and ensuring compliance with our Nature and Social Risk Policy. Your role involves strategic research, due diligence, and training, offering you exposure to diverse industries and geographies.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and drive research on nature and social (N&S) issues affecting clients, e.g. human rights, biodiversity, supply chain issues
- Oversee and challenge the first line of defense on N&S risk matters.
- Conduct enhanced N&S risk due diligence on clients and transactions to assess N&S risk.
- Support / lead training efforts on N&S risk matters within the firm.
- Engage with various functions across the firm on N&S risk matters, including Front Office, Legal, Audit, Compliance, Communications and others.
- Monitor and respond to global N&S related regulations.
- Participate in preparing external N&S risk-related disclosures.
- Support internal initiatives on N&S risk documentation and emerging topics.
- Contribute to continued enhancement of N&S risk management policies, standards and procedures.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- Experience in nature and social risk/sustainability roles including conducting due diligence on biodiversity and human rights related topics
- Deep understanding of nature and social issues across sectors.
- University degree in environmental studies, sustainability, or related fields.
- Robust understanding of banking products and decision-making processes.
- Strong client and commercial focus.
- Ability to convey information clearly and succinctly.
- Working knowledge of international N&S-related standards and frameworks, such as IFC Performance Standards.
- Excellent analytical skills, proficient in Excel and large datasets.
- Ability to draft high-quality presentations and documentation.
- Experience working with regulators on nature and social matters.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- Experience in sectors such as oil and gas, mining, clean energy, or agriculture.
- Experience in biodiversity and human rights topics, such as deforestation or supply chain labor risks
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written) skills
- Working knowledge of third-party N&S tools (e.g., MSCI, Sustainalytics, RepRisk, IBAT).
- Hands-on experience in N&S due diligence and risk management analysis.
- Familiarity with green products (e.g., Sustainability Linked Loans).
- Familiarity with emerging ESG topics impacting global banks.
