The Role: Global FX Engineering Lead

As a Global FX Engineering Lead, you will own the design, build, and evolution of mission-critical FX technology across the trade lifecycle. This is a hands-on leadership role for a strong Java engineer who can still code every day, lead by example, and partner closely with trading, sales, operations, finance, risk, and other end users to deliver scalable, high-quality solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the architecture, hands-on development, and delivery of strategic FX platforms and services.
  • Write high-quality production code primarily in Java, setting the standard for engineering excellence, design, and operational rigor.
  • Own front-to-back FX workflows including pricing, order capture, execution, trade processing, risk, position management, settlements, and reporting.
  • Partner closely with business stakeholders and users to understand workflow pain points, define requirements, and deliver practical solutions.
  • Drive the design of low-latency, resilient, and scalable services, APIs, and event-driven systems for global FX trading and post-trade processing.
  • Lead technical design reviews, mentor engineers, and remain deeply involved in implementation, troubleshooting, and release delivery.
  • Improve system performance, observability, stability, and control frameworks across the FX estate.
  • Work across teams to integrate FX platforms with surrounding systems including market data, risk, finance, operations, treasury, and regulatory reporting.
  • Provide hands-on support for production issues, release planning, and continuous improvement of development and delivery practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with strong hands-on server-side development in Java.
  • Deep front-to-back FX product and workflow knowledge across spot, forwards, swaps, NDFs, and related post-trade processes.
  • Strong experience building distributed, high-performance systems within an investment bank, broker-dealer, market maker, or electronic trading environment.
  • Proven ability to design microservices and event-driven architectures, with strong understanding of concurrency, design patterns, and performance optimization.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to debug complex production issues and make sound architectural decisions under pressure.
  • Technology & Domain Expertise:
    • Strong Java engineering skills with hands-on experience building APIs, services, and real-time processing components.
    • Good understanding of messaging and streaming patterns using technologies such as Kafka, and of modern data storage approaches for transactional and analytical workloads.
    • Practical experience designing systems for front-office, middle-office, and back-office integration across the FX trade lifecycle.
  • Platform & Engineering Practices: Experience with cloud-native deployment patterns, containerization, CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and production support.
  • Business Partnership: Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work directly with traders, sales, operations, finance, risk, and other end users.
  • Leadership: Experience leading engineers, driving delivery, and influencing technical direction while remaining hands-on in coding.
  • Preferred: Experience with electronic trading, pricing, market connectivity, and building globally distributed FX platforms.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with AWS and modern observability tooling in mission-critical trading environments.

We Offer:
