Functional Automation Tester

Location: Mostly remote/ad-hoc travel to Newcastle (max 1 day per month)

Work Pattern: Full time/12 Month Fixed Term Contract

The Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Functional Automation Tester to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for analysing functional requirements, designing, executing, and maintaining automated test scripts to ensure the highest quality of software delivery. This role demands strong expertise in Java, JUnit, and BDD/Cucumber while emphasizing automation testing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse functional requirements, including Functional Design Documents (FDD), Interface Design Documents (IDD), and Business Requirements.
  • Define the scope of functional testing and identify functional test scenarios, test cases, and test conditions.
  • Design, develop, and execute automated test scripts using appropriate testing tools and frameworks.
  • Provide expertise in planning, constructing, and executing test scripts to ensure seamless software functionality.
  • Conduct test result analysis, report defects, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Publish comprehensive test reports with all required metrics to ensure transparency and clarity.
  • Ensure all testing outcomes are well-documented, accessible, and understandable.
  • Apply business and functional knowledge, including adherence to testing standards, guidelines, and methodologies to meet team objectives.
  • Develop strategic testing plans and ensure their successful implementation.
  • Create test estimates and define/build reusable testing assets for large-scale and complex projects.
  • Coordinate the implementation of key initiatives, processes, or changes in testing.
  • Maintain and actively manage a risk log to identify and mitigate potential risks.

Required Experience:

  • Proficiency in Java
  • Experience with JUnit
  • Expertise in BDD/Cucumber

Desirable Skills:

  • Strong focus on automation testing
  • Ability to work with testing tools for script execution and result publishing
  • Familiarity with test management tools such as JIRA, TestRail, or equivalent
  • Understanding of Agile and DevOps methodologies
  • Experience in CI/CD integration for automated testing
  • Ability to troubleshoot and debug test failures effectively
