The Escapist is looking for new and experienced writers to help build the site's news coverage of celebrities and similar public figures. This is a fully remote contract position.

The Escapist is a website dedicated to the mature discussion of media, so we're looking for awesome people who love media and want to write about it. Right now, we're aiming to flesh out our news coverage of what's going on with celebrities.

Only complete applications with two writing samples will be considered. This is not a video-based or creative writing position, so please do not submit those as writing samples.

Responsibilities:

  • Research the latest celebrity news and pitch topics that cater to The Escapist audience
  • Submit relevant celebrity news stories in a timely manner under deadline
  • Communicate actively with the Editorial Team

Requirements:

  • Excellent English language writing skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and incorporate feedback.
  • Must be a self-starter who can complete pieces in a timely manner and pitch trending ideas.
  • A strong knowledge of celebrities.

Preferred:

If you've got any of the following, please note that in your cover letter:

  • Familiarity with Google Trends.
  • Experience writing SEO.
  • Fluency in social media platforms such as TikTok, X, Facebook, etc.

  • Two clips that demonstrate your ability to write on the aforementioned subjects..
    • Unpublished or self-published writing is OK!

Interview Process:

  • Resume and Application Questionnaire review 
  • Written Sample Test
  • Interview with the Hiring Manager or Managing Editor

Pay range: $15 to $75 USD per article, depending on length & type. Rates may differ for international candidates based on location.
