The Role:
We are seeking a skilled AWS FinOps Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a key role in optimizing our AWS spend, identifying cost savings, and implementing FinOps best practices. You’ll leverage your expertise in AWS services, cloud financial management, and automation to drive financial accountability and cost efficiency across teams. The AWS FinOps Engineer will collaborate closely with finance, operations, and engineering teams to develop and monitor cost-effective cloud solutions, ensuring optimal performance, security, and scalability within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cloud Cost Optimization: Design and implement cost management strategies on AWS, using services like Cost Explorer, Budgets, and Trusted Advisor to optimize spend.
- Financial Monitoring & Reporting: Build dashboards and reports to track, analyze, and forecast cloud usage and costs, providing visibility to stakeholders on budget adherence.
- Collaboration & Education: Work with engineering and finance teams to establish best practices, promote a culture of cost accountability, and educate teams on cost-conscious cloud usage.
- Tagging and Governance: Implement tagging policies and governance practices to ensure accurate cost tracking and accountability across departments.
- Tooling & Automation: Automate processes using tools such as AWS Lambda, CloudFormation, and third-party FinOps tools to enforce cost controls and streamline budget management.
- Capacity Planning: Collaborate with teams on capacity planning to ensure efficient resource provisioning, reducing over-provisioning and under-utilization of resources.
- Stay Updated on Best Practices: Continuously research AWS updates and industry best practices in cloud financial management to improve cost optimization strategies.
Requirements:
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- AWS Cloud Knowledge: Proven experience with AWS services and capabilities, including EC2, S3, IAM, RDS, Lambda, and Cost Management tools.
- FinOps Expertise: Strong understanding of FinOps principles and cloud financial management, with hands-on experience in AWS cost management, reporting, and budgeting.
- Automation Skills: Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and familiarity with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform for cost and resource optimization.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities with experience in data analysis, financial reporting, and budgeting for cloud resources.
- Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams, translating technical and financial concepts for stakeholders.
- Certifications: AWS FinOps certification or AWS Solutions Architect certifications are highly desirable.
