About this role

About FMA

BlackRock's Financial Markets Advisory group (“FMA”) provides counsel to financial institutions, sovereigns and official institutions across a range of strategic, capital, balance sheet, risk and regulatory matters, across both public and private markets. At the heart of “BlackRock as a platform” FMA aims to build or deepen BlackRock’s relationships with our clients’ senior management, serving them on their most critical and most complex needs.

The group brings together deep capital markets expertise, complex engagement management, data & analytics skills and strategic client advisory capabilities. At ~150 team members globally, FMA maintains a “boutique” focus, working where BlackRock brings unique perspective and experience and where we can advance BlackRock’s major commercial priorities.

We distinguish ourselves through the combination of deep practitioner expertise and extensive market presence, with a fully fiduciary mindset – including the ability to operate behind strict information barriers where circumstances require. FMA also acts as a key talent laboratory for the firm, with many of BlackRock’s senior leaders having built their careers through the group and taken on broader leadership roles across the platform.

About the Role

We are looking to recruit a Director to join FMA, based in New York City.

This position will play a central role in shaping and delivering FMA’s strategy in the Americas, combining senior-level client advisory, commercial leadership and talent development. The Director will be expected to act as a senior thought partner to FMA leadership, helping to identify priority themes, grow key client relationships, and build new advisory and investment collaboration opportunities aligned with BlackRock’s broader commercial objectives.

The role includes project execution, idea generation for new business opportunities, relationship management, business development, and advising clients on complex capital markets challenges in partnership with the group’s subject matter experts.

Externally, the role involves engagement with senior stakeholders across the region’s financial services and public sector ecosystems. Internally, the Director will leverage BlackRock’s capabilities across Capital Markets, Aladdin, Research and other businesses, acting as a connector across the platform.

Key Responsibilities

Areas of focus include:

  • Exemplifying BlackRock’s fiduciary culture and delivering consistently high‑quality advisory outcomes for clients.
  • Helping shape FMA’s strategic direction in the Americas, including identifying growth priorities, emerging themes, and opportunities for new offerings or partnerships.
  • Directing and managing large, multi‑disciplinary project teams, incorporating subject matter experts, data and analytical specialists, researchers and generalists.
  • Leading engagement design and planning, acting as the central point of coordination across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Serving as a primary day‑to‑day liaison with clients, including senior executive stakeholders.
  • Playing a hands‑on role in project execution through content creation, problem solving, quantitative analysis and provision of solutions‑oriented advice.
  • Driving meaningful commercial impact, including originating new engagements, expanding existing relationships, and translating ideas into scaled advisory or investment collaborations.
  • Interacting with BlackRock and client senior management, industry participants, lenders, developers and other investors.
  • Acting as a senior leader, mentor and coach to the team, developing talent, strengthening project leadership capabilities, and fostering a collaborative and high‑performance culture.

Knowledge/Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in the financial sector, with a preference for investment or corporate banking, strategy consulting, advisory or investment experience.
  • Demonstrated record of commercial impact, including business building, revenue generation, or expansion of senior client relationships.
  • Deep understanding of capital markets, with broad-based experience across a range of asset classes, including in private markets.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the operating model and balance sheets of key financial ecosystem participants such as banks, insurance companies, pension funds and other asset owners.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous environments, with the judgement and drive to build new client solutions or offerings where no predefined playbook exists.
  • Strategic mindset, with the ability to operate as a trusted advisor to senior executives and to shape longer‑term agendas.
  • Strong entrepreneurial orientation, with a track record of identifying opportunities and translating them into tangible outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and coach diverse teams in a high‑intensity environment.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities, intellectual curiosity and sound judgement.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesise complex issues clearly for senior audiences.
  • Strong organisational skills, resilience under pressure, and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Strong quantitative and technical skills, with a passion for finance, markets and/or sustainability concepts.
