Join our community.

Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (SCIB) is Santander's global division that supports some of the world's most complex and sophisticated corporate and institutional clients, offering customised services and value-added wholesale products to best meet their needs.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Financial Intelligence Unit Associate to join the Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) Function at Banco Santander, S.A. London Branch (SLB). The FCC function identifies, manages and monitors financial crime risks associated with SLB’s customers and third-parties in order to ensure compliance with applicable financial crime laws and regulations.

You will assist the Santander London Branch Financial Crime Intelligence Unit (FIU) Manager in the investigation and analysis of potentially suspicious activity and emerging financial crime typologies.

The difference you’ll make:

  • Receiving and assessing escalations of suspicious activity from SLB teams, including screening and transaction monitoring alerts
  • Drafting investigation reports and, where required, suspicious activity reports for review by the Head of SLB FCC and MLRO
  • Liaising with other Santander group teams and investigating cases using internal and external information sources
  • Supporting the threat mitigation program to facilitate the proactive identification and detection of emerging financial crime risks, extracting and analysing bulk data to identify risk factors
  • Supporting the SLB FCC FIU Manager in SLB’s interaction with UK Law Enforcement agencies and other relevant industry and/or regulatory initiatives
  • Supporting the oversight of relevant financial crime monitoring systems and controls to ensure new developments, thresholds, and scenarios are appropriate for SLB’s activity and services (to include system testing and calibration/tuning)
  • Collaborating with other Compliance and FCC functions regarding training programs, risk assessments, etc

What you’ll bring:

These are the essential requirements you need to be successful in this role:

  • Experience of using systems and software to analyse data
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Previous experience of investigating financial crimes related activity and filing suspicious activity reports
  • Knowledge of Financial Crime risks and how these are managed in Wholesale Banking

It would also be nice for you to have:

  • External qualification in Financial Crime (e.g. from ACAMS or ICA)
  • Educated to Degree level in a relevant subject (Engineering, Finance, Science, and Mathematics) or equivalent
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to make decisions and build positive relationships with stakeholders
  • Should show initiative, be organised and be able to plan and prioritise

What else you need to know:

This role is based at our offices in Triton Square, London located within easy walking distance from Warren Street and Euston.

We want our people to thrive at work and home and also be able to deliver the best outcomes for our customers and to help each other develop. To support this, we offer the ability to work remotely occasionally.

If you apply for this role in this location, it’s important you consider your travelling distance, time and cost from your home to the office location. We’re happy to discuss specific working patterns and arrangement within this hybrid approach during the recruitment process.

If you’re interested in this role but with part time hours or a job-share we would still love to hear from you and discuss these.

Inclusion:

  • Eligible for a discretionary performance-related annual bonus.

  • We put 8% of salary into your pension, even if you don’t contribute yourself. We’ll pay in up to 12.5% of salary, if you contribute as well, and you can take some of our contribution in cash if you prefer

  • 27 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, which increases to 28 days after 5yrs service, with the option to purchase up to 5 contractual days per year

  • Free access to a range of digital health services, including GP.

  • Protection for you and your family, with company-funded death-in-service benefit and income protection insurance, and the option to take advantage of discounted rates for additional life assurance and critical illness cover
