Financial Graphics Journalist

Reuters Graphics is looking for a Financial Graphics Reporter to create clear and compelling visual stories related to business, finance and economics. You will be part of a global team of creative and collaborative financial graphics journalists.

You'll join an award-winning team of journalists spread across the world, of which the Financial Graphics Team is one key part. We're a diverse team of journalists who are also designers, coders, illustrators, cartographers and editors. We prize innovation, creativity and collaboration above speed and we believe that people do their best work when treated with flexibility and empathy.

About the Role

As a Financial Graphics Reporter at Reuters you will:

  • Pitch and work on data-rich and visually compelling stories related to economics, business or finance.

  • Work closely with writers, editors and other graphics journalists around the globe.

  • Contribute to breaking news coverage across business, economics and financial beats.

  • Develop your skills as a Financial Graphics Reporter by working with the wider team. We're looking for someone that's particularly interested in learning new skills and partnering with experienced journalists to add visually compelling media to key news stories.

  • Be a kind and thoughtful colleague who contributes positively to team culture and initiatives.

About You

  • An interest in finance, economics, business and their intersections with other coverage areas (politics, the environment, technology, etc.).

  • Comfort working with simple datasets in Excel or Google Sheets

  • Proficiency in creating graphics without the use of off-the-shelf charting tools (e.g. making graphics in Adobe Illustrator and/or with HTML and Javascript and/or other methods).

  • Demonstrated understanding of basic information design principles.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise judgement when it comes to displaying datasets and understanding their limitations.

Please submit or link to two or three samples of work (can be from college/university, a personal project or from a prior position). We're particularly interested in seeing any projects showcasing your experience of any of the following:

  • Ability to use Adobe Illustrator.

  • Illustration skills.

  • Front end web development skills

  • Experience/ability with map-making software such as QGIS

  • Experience/ability with programmatic data manipulation and charting skills in languages such as R or Python.

  • A background in data science or statistics.

  • Note - we don't expect you to have all of the above skills! Any one or more of the above is sufficient for this task.

Applications close Sunday 16th March 2025. Early applications are encouraged.
