Transaction Advisory Services: Financial Due Diligence - Director

CFGI, founded in 2000 by former Big 4 professionals, is a dynamic and fast-growing financial consulting firm serving as a trusted partner to CFOs and their organisations. We help clients tackle complex challenges across accounting, financial reporting, transactions, regulatory compliance, tax, and business transformation.

We blend deep technical expertise with a hands-on, entrepreneurial approach to help leading public, private, private equity-backed, and emerging companies move forward with confidence. Without the restrictions of auditor independence, our professionals have the flexibility to provide practical, creative solutions to complex business challenges.

We are actively expanding our Transaction Advisory Services practice in the UK and are seeking an experienced Director to lead complex buy-side and sell-side financial due diligence engagements. Directors serve as trusted advisors to senior client stakeholders, oversee multiple engagements, develop client relationships, contribute to business development, and help drive the continued growth of CFGI’s Transaction Advisory Services practice.

What you might expect:

  • Lead complex buy-side and sell-side transaction advisory engagements, providing financial and business due diligence support to private equity firms, strategic buyers, and corporate clients.
  • Analyse and oversee the analysis of target company financial information to identify historical and projected operating trends, quality of earnings and assets, pro forma financial information, working capital considerations, debt and debt-like items, and other potential liabilities or risks.
  • Advise clients on financial matters that may impact transaction valuation, deal structure, negotiations, and overall transaction execution.
  • Serve as a senior point of contact for clients throughout the transaction process and build trusted relationships with private equity sponsors, portfolio company executives, corporate development teams, and other senior stakeholders.
  • Lead and coordinate multiple complex engagements simultaneously while maintaining quality and meeting transaction deadlines.
  • Manage and coordinate CFGI engagement teams, clients, and third-party diligence providers throughout the transaction lifecycle.
  • Review and approve financial analyses, due diligence workpapers, client-ready reports, and executive-level presentations.
  • Oversee engagement planning, staffing, project economics, risk management, and overall client delivery.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop Senior Managers, Managers, and Consultants through technical leadership, coaching, and professional development.
  • Contribute to proposal development, client relationship management, networking, cross-selling, and broader business development and practice growth initiatives.

What you must have:

  • At least 12 years of experience in assurance and/or transaction advisory within a Big 4 firm.
  • Professional services experience, including experience leading complex client engagements.
  • Exposure to private equity transactions, including experience working with private equity clients and/or their portfolio companies.

What sets you apart:

  • Experience leading buy-side and sell-side financial due diligence engagements.
  • Experience analysing and advising clients on quality of earnings, working capital, debt and debt-like items, cash flow, historical and projected financial performance, and other transaction-related financial considerations.
  • Experience serving as a senior advisor to private equity sponsors, portfolio company executives, strategic buyers, and corporate clients throughout the transaction lifecycle.
  • Strong current knowledge of IFRS, UK GAAP, and/or other accounting principles relevant to transaction advisory engagements.
  • Experience leading client presentations and delivering executive-level financial due diligence reports and transaction recommendations.
  • Experience managing multiple engagement teams while overseeing staffing, engagement economics, quality, risk management, and client delivery.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills used for financial modelling and data analysis, including PivotTables, lookups, arrays, Power Pivot, Power Query, and related functionality.
  • Experience developing long-term client relationships and contributing to business development through proposals, client expansion, networking, cross-selling, and other revenue-generation activities.
  • Experience mentoring and developing transaction advisory professionals and contributing to the growth of a practice or team.

Nice to have:

  • ACA, ACCA, CA, or another relevant professional accounting qualification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience across both assurance and transaction advisory engagements.
  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions, carve-outs, post-close integration planning, or other complex transaction environments.

Who thrives here:

  • Outstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to build credibility with senior and executive stakeholders.
  • Proactive in identifying client needs and developing long-term trusted advisor relationships.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking abilities with sound judgement in complex transaction environments.
  • Highly organised with the ability to lead multiple engagements, teams, and competing priorities.
  • Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, adaptable, ethical, and dependable.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced transaction environment where workload may increase around critical deal deadlines.
  • High energy with a commitment to exceptional client service, practice growth, and talent development.
