The Opportunity

This is a varied role focused on the provision of an exemplary financial accounting service. The Financial Accountant will ensure that financial systems, regulations (local and DMGT (group finance)), procedures and controls are in place to safeguard the company’s assets. This role will support colleagues with the delivery of a variety of financial accounting processes and report directly to the Head of Financial Control (HoFC).

The role requires a significant amount of cross-working and collaboration across both the team and the wider organisation.

With the company’s growth front of mind, the post holder will focus on continuous improvement in systems and process change to enable the department to absorb both growth and diversity in our operations/activities.

The role will involve:

  • Take primary responsibility for our various month end processes in delivering to our financial accounting/reporting deadlines as directed by the HoFC.
  • Prepare papers/schedules for the year end audit and assist the HoFC with the preparation of group and subsidiary statutory accounts.
  • Review and updating of our financial controls framework and documentation including the maintenance of the Financial Control teams task matrix/procedures. The post holder will focus on areas of transformation/efficiency to increase our controls and governance processes.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger including the review/analysis of postings/adjustments and monthly review/sign off of balance sheet reconciliations. Direct action plans for the team as required and set milestones for any required changes in process.
  • Prepare the weekly and monthly cashflow forecast for local management in advance of submission to DMGT. The post holder will carry out a critical review of the numbers and highlight changes to Landmark senior financial management prior to submission. Work with the HoFCto make improvements to the cashflow forecasting process.
  • Provide support and training to your team members and set achievable, measurable development objectives for them annually and review progress and coach the team for success through appraisals and one to one sessions.
  • Work with the DMGT tax department to calculate the year end Corporation tax provision. Utilize the Assistant Accounts to prepare the ledger analysis for the tax workings and provide any training required to achieve this.
  • Be responsible for the collation and filing of group statutory accounts with Companies House, working with DMGT’s Finance team and Company Secretary as required.
  • Be responsible for the completion of group company confirmation statements on Companies House.
  • Be responsible for the talent management process for the team. The post holder will be actively involved in the talent management review process.
  • Members of the finance leadership team will be clearly aligned with and model our Remarkable values and behaviours. The Financial Accountant will guide and coach their team to our values and behaviours and play an important part in further enhancing our team culture.
  • Act as cover for team members as and when required.

About You

You will be an experienced Financial Accountant, with a CCAB qualification (ACA/ACCA) and more than 5 years post qualification experience. You will be methodical and well organised with excellent attention to detail, be a self-starter able to manage your own workload and capable of meeting department deadlines.

You will also have/be:

  • Advanced Excel skills including ability to extract and manipulate data and create/use complex formulae.
  • Experience working to IFRS including but not limited to IFRS 15.
  • Involvement with the implementation of governance/processes for Sox Lite legislation.
  • The ability to work in a flexible environment where new systems and procedures are developed and implemented.
  • Team focused as well as being able to work on own initiative.
  • A proactive collaborator.
  • The ability to positively influence others with a commitment to continuous improvement of systems and processes.
