The Finance Manager, Europe is a member of the Firm’s Finance function managing the accounting and finance requirements of our European offices, including compliance with Firm policies and procedures, and applicable legislation and regulation (including but not limited to VAT, HMRC, SRA and AML).KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
Regulatory & Audit:
- Ensure the European offices comply with all internal policies, relevant regulations, and external audit requirements, and ensure local filings are completed in a timely manner,
- Work with the London Compliance team on relevant matters including AML,
- Work closely with the COFA to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements,
- Ensure compliance with the SRA and other governing bodies, including the HMRC,
- Prepare and submit HMRC liabilities and ensure compliance in relevant offices,
- Lead the SRA audit, including coordination with external auditors, Finance, partners and office personnel and preparation of client assistance requests,
- Assist with statutory audit of K&S International LLP, including review of subledger accounts, including AR, WIP and AP balances, coordination with designated members for signing and filing and various ad hoc requests,
- Liaise with Firmwide Director of Tax, ensuring financial information is provided in a timely manner for VAT tax return preparation,
- Ensure statutory filings are accurate and filed on time, including various monthly, quarterly, and annual National Statistics filings,
- Work with Director of Operations, Europe to manage the Business Rate reviews periodically/as required.
Management Information and Budgets:
- Provide accurate financial information to management in a timely and structured manner
- Work with the Director of Operations, Europe on the preparation and submission of the annual budget,
- Monitor expenses in the international offices -including regular variance reporting,
- Provide support to budget holders and staff regarding classification of expenses,
Banking/Suppliers:
- Serve as local contact for bank accounts for European offices and assists with bank mandates,
- Approve local payments, ensuring payment policies have been followed, payments have sufficient backup and are appropriately approved.
General Tasks:
- Train new staff on the Firm’s financial procedures and systems,
- Supervise operations of Legal Cashier,
- Maintain effective internal financial controls to assure proper approvals, segregation of duties and protection of firm assets.
QUALIFIATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Chartered Accountant with at least five years’ experience, preferably in the legal industry.
- Demonstrated leadership skills including problem solving, planning, time management, organizing and decision-making necessary for effective management.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships throughout the organization; must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to perform complex financial analysis independently, including trend and variance analysis.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with Solicitor’s Accounts Rules and Procedures.
- Experience with MS applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Working knowledge and experience with Aderant software for law firms (preferred).
