Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Field Consultant IV to lead and deliver Vertex tax technology implementation projects across leading host platforms such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft, and other strategic partners. In this pivotal role, you will oversee all phases of Vertex project delivery, from requirements analysis and solution design to system configuration, testing, and client support. Serving as a subject matter expert (SME), you will provide expert guidance, ensure seamless integration, and foster lasting client relationships.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead engagements of varying complexity from initiation through completion, ensuring seamless integration and high-quality outcomes.
  • Manage strategic customer relationships, driving ongoing business development and fostering long-term partnerships.
  • Successfully manage multiple complex projects concurrently, ensuring alignment with client objectives and organisational standards.
  • Maintain a proven track record of delivering projects on time, within budget, and without non-product-related escalations.
  • Independently handle client escalations on assigned engagements, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Build and manage partner relationships within assigned projects to strengthen collaboration and outcomes.
  • Serve as a recognised subject matter expert, actively sought out within the practice and across functions such as Sales and Product Management for deep technical insights.
  • Proactively identify and pursue additional software and service opportunities, driving client value and business growth.
  • Build and maintain trusted customer references, strengthening credibility and long-term relationships.
  • Resolve project escalations promptly and effectively, maintaining client confidence and project stability.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively across the organisation and with clients, vendors, and third-party consultants to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Deliver consultative guidance on technical deployments to ensure successful implementation.
  • Lead client technical training sessions to ensure successful adoption and utilisation of solutions.
  • Monitor and follow up on project task status with internal teams and external resources to prevent delays and maintain timelines.
  • Mentor Field II and III consultants; provide technical guidance and support onboarding.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • N/A

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Expert knowledge of Vertex products, integrations, and related host systems.
  • Advanced project management expertise for Vertex deployments, including resource allocation, documentation validation, specification review, level-of-effort estimation, project planning, scope control, and budget management.
  • Deep understanding of tax functionality in various business processes, applicable tax rules, common business processes, and best practices in automating tax data management.
  • Working knowledge of XML/SOAP, JSON/REST and Webservices development concepts.
  • In-depth knowledge of all Vertex Products for OnPrem Deployments (O Series/LITE/EDGE/Returns), all Vertex SaaS solutions (VOD, OSC, e-Invoicing), and system integrations and APIs.
  • Custom development experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, work in a team environment, and be responsive to project and customer needs.
  • Ability to adapt and function effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment, while working under deadlines.
  • Solid analytical, presentation, troubleshooting, and design skills.
  • ERP knowledge is a plus.
  • Effective time management skills.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • 7–10+ years of experience in Vertex Tax/Technology Implementations and Project Management, with strong knowledge of one or more host application/Vertex Partner software applications.
  • In-depth tax application experience working with public accounting firms and/or Fortune 1000 companies in the area of transaction tax (e.g., multi-state/VAT).
  • Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Expert Vertex O Series Implementor for O Series Functional Resources.
