House & Garden are looking for a Features Writer, 12 month FTC to work across print and digital.

You'll be an experienced journalist with deep expertise in the British interior design and decorating industry. With a proven ability to integrate ideas, compelling copy and striking visuals to craft engaging news stories and features. 

We're looking for someone brimming with creative ideas and the skills to bring them to life. In this role, you'll report to the Deputy Editor and work closely with both the Digital Director and Houses Director.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop creative ideas for news stories, write the resulting articles and take responsibility for sourcing and acquiring high-resolution photos. Work with the Photography Director on stories that require newly commissioned images.

  • Develop, produce and write features, house stories and profiles for both the print edition and website.

  • Contribute ideas and write additional features for the magazine and website as appropriate.

  • Attend photoshoots for features, lifestyle and house stories across the UK and occasionally abroad. Some lifestyle shoots may require an overnight stay outside of London.

  • Attend press launches and events during and sometimes outside of working hours.

  • Participate in monthly digital features meetings, presenting ideas for timely, relevant news stories as well as in-depth features.

  • Write regular news stories on interiors, property and culture for the House & Garden website, collaborating closely with the digital team to craft engaging and relevant content.

  • Update the ‘What House & Garden’s Editors Are Excited About This Month’ section with print news stories and add additional stories throughout the month.

  • Upload print-first features to the House & Garden website, optimising them for a digital audience.

  • Oversee daily updates to evergreen digital content, with a focus on galleries.

Who you are:

  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role.

  • Impeccable editorial judgement and written and verbal communication skills.

  • Confident, collaborative and communicative with a desire to thrive in a fast-paced media environment.

  • A strong team player with excellent communication skills, essential for our close-knit and agile team.

  • A passion for and understanding of the brand’s core subjects: decoration, design, travel and food.

  • Ability to work efficiently under deadlines with a positive, can-do attitude and a willingness to learn.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to follow content calendars and schedules seamlessly.

  • Ability to provide examples of outstanding published news and feature articles.
