The Role

House & Garden is looking for a Features Director to lead the development, commissioning and delivery of major editorial features across print and digital platforms, with responsibility for generating distinctive story ideas, overseeing longform and visually-led features, and ensuring a dynamic pipeline of content across multiple platforms.

Working closely with the Head of Editorial Content, Creative Director and senior editorial team, the Features Director will commission and edit high-quality stories spanning interiors, design, architecture, decoration, culture and lifestyle. The role requires a strong editorial voice, excellent industry relationships and a sophisticated understanding of how editorial content translates across print, digital, video and social.

The successful candidate will combine creative vision with exceptional editorial judgement and organisational skills. They will be experienced in managing contributors and identifying culturally relevant stories and developing content that reflects the House & Garden aesthetic while reaching new audiences.

What will you be doing?

  • Leading the commissioning, development and editing of features across print and digital platforms.

  • Shaping the editorial agenda in collaboration with the Head of Editorial Content and senior editorial team.

  • Generating original story ideas and identifying emerging trends, talent and culturally relevant conversations within interiors, design and lifestyle.

  • Overseeing the production of visually-led and longform editorial features.

  • Collaborating closely with the Creative Director and Visuals Editor to ensure a cohesive editorial and visual approach across all features.

  • Identifying opportunities for stories to extend across video, social and digital formats.

  • Managing long-range editorial planning and maintaining a strong pipeline of future features.

  • Building and maintaining relationships with contributors, publicists, designers, brands and key industry contacts.

  • Representing House & Garden at industry events, launches and external meetings where relevant.
     

About You

  • Significant senior editorial experience within interiors, lifestyle, design or magazine publishing.

  • Strong commissioning and editing experience, with a proven ability to shape distinctive editorial packages.

  • Excellent editorial judgement and a sophisticated understanding of the House & Garden audience and aesthetic.

  • A strong network of contacts across interiors, architecture, design, culture and lifestyle sectors.

  • Experience overseeing complex editorial projects and working across print, digital and social platforms.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with experience handling both long form and visually-led content.

  • Strong organisational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Confident collaborating across editorial, creative, photography, production and digital teams.

  • A proactive, collaborative and highly resourceful approach.

  • Deep knowledge of the interiors and design landscape, with enthusiasm for discovering exceptional stories, emerging talent and new editorial opportunities.
