As a Simulation Engineer Intern, you will join us over summer 2026 and play a crucial role in supporting our finite element analysis (FEA) team. This exciting opportunity will allow you to gain hands-on experience with industry-leading engineering software while contributing to real-world engineering projects. You'll work alongside experienced engineers to solve complex structural, thermal, and dynamic problems across various industries. Join us in this dynamic role, where your insights and contributions will help shape innovative engineering solutions and advance your career in computational engineering!
Tasks/Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the simulation team to set up, execute, and validate FEA simulations for various engineering projects.
- Perform structural, thermal, and dynamic analyses using commercial and/or open-source FEA software packages.
- Analyze and post-process simulation results to support design decisions and optimization efforts.
- Build simulation pipelines for large design of experiments generation using inhouse tools
- Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations to communicate findings, including graphical representations of data and key insights.
- Assist with documentation of simulation procedures, best practices, and lessons learned.
- Structural Analysis: Evaluate stress concentrations and failure modes in mechanical components and composites under various loading conditions.
- Thermal Management: Analyse thermal impact and temperature distribution in electronic enclosures or heat exchangers.
- Design Optimization: Support parametric studies to identify optimal geometries or material selections.
- Surrogate Modelling Pipeline: Develop automated simulation workflows to generate training datasets for machine learning-based surrogate models, enabling rapid design space exploration and real-time predictions.
- Currently pursuing a PhD or Master's or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Familiarity with finite element analysis concepts and applications.
- Basic understanding of FEA software (e.g., ANSYS, ABAQUS, NX NASTRAN, Calculix, LS Dyna, or similar).
- Proficiency in programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) is mandatory.
- Experience using High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments and Unix/Linux operating systems is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Duration: 3 months (Summer 2026)
- Location: On-site (London, UK)
- Work with a fun group of colleagues that support you, challenge you and help you grow. We come from many different backgrounds, but we all have a common desire to operate at the very top of our fields and solve truly challenging problems. If you are similarly capable, ambitious and driven, you'll find yourself at home here.
- This is a paid opportunity, details on compensation will be shared as part of the latter stages of the interview process.
Our roles are hybrid, and we work from our London office at least 4 days per week. This structure is designed to provide meaningful exposure to our teams and projects while maintaining flexibility.
